You could check to see if they've changed the seat design for the new model year. If not, order your truck with a bench seat then swap it out for buckets and a console from a wrecker or EBay. 'Gently used' seats will probably run about $400 or so. It would be a lot cheaper than ordering from Ford.

Just try building a 250/350 with a manual trans and bucket seats. That is what I am looking for.
"...reveals the six-speed automatic 5.4-L V8 will achieve 320-horsepower at 5,200-rpm and 390 lb-ft of torque at 3,500-rpm. The new numbers are a modest improvement over the 2008 Ford F-150's 300-hp at 5,000-rpm / 365 lb-ft at 3,750-rpm.
The 5.4-L V8 uses Ford's new 'open valve injection' technology. As the name suggests, open valve injection injects fuel into the cylinders while the intake valves are open (instead of closed like during conventional combustion cycles). The incoming air improves the mixture of air and fuel before the 'charge' is ignited. Ford says the result is increased horsepower during towing, higher RPMs, and an improvement in emissions from the more efficient burn."
Sounds better than previous 5.4 , but still way behind the competition...ie; Toyota with the 381 hp V8...5.7 liter....Mopar with the 5.7 Hemi .
But no matter how good it is, it won't be enough for any of the Big three and Toyota. Fuel prices are going to kill the pickup, as anything but a work vehicle or lessening numbers of RV'ers pulling good sized trailers. Downsizing is coming.

As this person mentioned, it doesn sound like that Tundra 5.7 is doing a sensational job.
Ok, so the Ford, is .3 Liters down on the Tundra V8, is it's upcoming fuel mileage figures in the ball park for what it delievers, compared to what Toyota has done?
So Tundra delivers 381 H.P. with .3 more liters, or 61 more H.P. and some pretty good torque numbers too.
Again, the fuel mileage claims that I've been picking up on post in the forum, are pretty good for all that H.P. and Torque. It isn't up there with diesel mileage numbers, but it isn't that faraway either.
I guess time will tell, how durable the 5.7 Tundra engine will be. It's still just barely over 1 year on the road with owners.
Actually, Nissan's 5.6 Endeavor V8 for the Titan is no slouch either.
Dodge's upgraded Hemi 5.7 is going to be putting out H.P. and Torque numbers that rival the Tundra 5.7 too.
So where does this place the Ford Triton 5.4 V8?

Also don't forget that Ford has one more gasser to debut in the truck. A 6.2L Boss/Hurricane motor that is reported to put around 380hp, 400+ft/lbs torque.
I have a 2007 5.4 and do not find it lacking in the power department though. Maybe it's me but I don't take my truck drag racing on a Saturday night but just use it to pull my camper and it does that without any problem and pulls decent gas mileage. I ask you what you consider bad? I can come close to 20mpg empty on the highway and pulling my HTT can pull off an honest 10 - 11mpg all day long depending on the terrain. If I had the new 6sp I'm sure I could tack on an extra 1mpg onto that.
These are half ton trucks and do half ton work with no problem. If I wanted them to do more I'd get a 3/4 ton. Personally I'm really looking forward to the truck and it'll be on my short list in 2010.
Looks like Ford did a good compromise actually. The power numbers are close or beat the Nissan Endurance 5.6L and that motor out performed the 04-07 Hemi in pull offs and empty accelleration tests. Add in the 6 speed transmission and Ford has a good upgraded combo here. FWIW the last review I saw of the 5.3L Tahoe vs the 5.4L Expedition had the Expedition winning out in accelleration and towing tests due to the 6 speed vs GM's 4 speed. Note that on paper the 5.3L should have performed better. Ford did a better job of getting the power to the wheels.

I find the torque numbers pretty impressive. This is what really pulls the load. 6spd tranny was a must.
As we have all seen, the new F150 SuperCrew HD payload package should be a nice candidate for the motor, 6spd tranny and hopefully an available 4.10 or 4.30.
