Saw ours open in the mirror once. I think I bumped the handle when making the bed. Now we have a piece of velcro around the handle.

Mine also opened going down the road. I was on a back road only about 2 miles from home. I noticed it in the mirror. I pulled over and latched it tightly. when I got home, I went to Lowes and picked up a couple of clevis pins. I then drilled a hole through the latch and the bracket. I installed the pins and haven't looked back since. If there is an emergency, it operates just like a fire extinguisher, pull the pin and pop the window. Easy simple fix and stops me from having ANOTHER item to check before departure. If I have the windows open, the pin will store in the bracket without issue.

Thanks, I never realized the window would fall out if opened. I just thought it swung up.

Mine is 22x22 once you get the hinged window out of the way. (I assume the hinge thing breaks at some point at which time you get hit in the head by the entire window) Then there's nothing to hold onto outside and a 5ft drop to the ground. The same concept is much higher up for other RV's like 5th wheels. It may meet the letter of the law for escape windows however operationally it's at best very very poorly thought out.
IMHO, there's no point in escaping and breaking your neck. I won't even bother with the cute red handled window, I'll go out the back window 5ft away and use the roof ladder to get down safely.

our back window is solid but bigger then the exit window i would have to smash it out to get out to the ladder but would be better then falling on your head from almost 6 ft up.

Thank goodness that era is gone, to punish for an accident caused by innocence is just wrong.
