My question is which is the better material for a replacement awning, vinyl or acrylic. Mine split above the awning cradle support in the middle of the awning on the outer layer for about 4 inches, I have temporarily repaired with awning tape.

Another vote for acrylic. I've owned RV's with both. Vinyl smells...well, like vinyl, and it loves mold & mildew.

Acrylic will last longer, look better, and resist mildew. Most of the Acrylic awnings are made of Sunbrella fabric which is often used in commercial installations where its exposed for years. If you step up to acrylic you might as well go all the way and get an aluminum wrap for it. I bought the aluma-guard wrap and after 3-4 months of rain and snow when I pulled the awning out it was completely dry. You cant say that about a vinyl awning without a wrap.

After I installed the metal roll-up acrylic window awnings, I replaced my vinyl awning with acrylic fabric to match the window awnings and added the metal roll-up at the top.
Although I like it better than the vinyl, there are a couple of minor cons.
In a very hard rain we get a very very light mist through the fabric.
The instructions also warn not to touch the fabric when it is raining because that could start a drip at the touched spot - sort of like the old canvas tents I guess.
However, would I switch back to vinyl? Nope.
