We have found an excellent floorplan in the XLR 37X12SA with the enclosed bath. It has everything we were looking for, BUT IT HAS 5200lb AXLES WITH AN 18,000lb GVWR. All other TH have 6,000lb axles on this weight. I guess this means that gross of trailer is 15,600 with hitch weight taking up the rest. Would this be a problem carrying a motorcycle or 1500lbs of stuff and not overload the trailer? any opinions?
If it has 3 axles then (3 x 5200 = 15600 lbs) on the axles and 2400 lbs on the hitch. Sounds about right. You just need to know what the trailer weighs and then subtract from 1800 lbs to know what you can haul.

I think you will find that the difference is in the wheels and not the axle's and Bearings. The make a 5,6,8 or 10 lug wheel. Bearings and axle's are the same, As so with horse and Boat trailers. I would want an 8 lug or better wheel.
So it looks like you have a capacity of 4600 lbs (18000 – 13400 = 4600lbs).
4600 lbs would include any options added to the trailer, water, fuel, gear, food, bike, etc.
If I read between your lines, I would assume that you have not weighed your trailer? Knowing this number would give the best idea of how much weight you can add.
I've been looking at the forest river xlr 30x12. I love the loft bed idea over top of the garage. I can't find one local to look at. Post pix when you get it!
We havn't purchased yet, but are close still negotiating. Mainly I was concerned as to why all other 18,000lb TH have (3) 6,000lb axles to cover the weight, and Forest River went with (3) 5,200lb axles which won't cover the 18,000 weight - not taking into account the hitch weight on either vehicle.
Ask the dealer to get an actual weight on the trailer you are looking at before you buy. We got the XLR 37X12 with a supposed 12,330 dry weight as posted on the label on the inside of the lower interior cabinet door. We stopped buy a truck scale on the way home and were surprised to learn that it actually weighed 12,950.
Interesting! Dry??? How could it be so much higher weight? Options? I only am interested in the smaller, (30x12), so I could safely tow with a single-wheel one ton? Mayy-be??? Now I am confused!
Keep in mind my trailer is a 39x12, a little heavier than the 37x12, so I think your axles will be fine! These weights were loaded!
An update on weight for anyone considering the 3912 XLR (the other XLR's dont weigh much less, either).
We scaled in on the way back from Glamis after dumping, with approx 25 gallons of leftover fresh water, 4 quads, and gear for a 7 day trip.
Steer Axle: 4,800
Drive Axle: 6,760
Trailer Axle: 13,940 divided by three = 4,646
Total combined: 25,500lbs!!!
These units are heavy!
The 2008 GMC 2500 CCab 4x4 handled it with power, braking was decent(drive defensive, though) and air bags a must for the 3,000lbs PIN weight.
Regardless, I think I will be investing in some storage near our winter / summer destinations to minimize towing. If the storage rates are decent, we may come out ahead on fuel savings anyway. We have always done this with the boat, and it works out great. With the current price of diesel, this may be the way to go.
