Someone had posted some information regarding the American Express card limiting travel purchases unless you notified them. This is an easy solution if you qualify.

The American Express Business Card gives you the 5% fuel rebate and the other discounts. It also does not require you to call if you are traveling. At some stations you may be required to pay inside. This is not an American Express requirement. For fuel purchases they must be 75 gallons or less, per purchase, gas or diesel. The 5% rebate is not limited to any number of purchases. They must be at a stand alone fuel station or truck stop. They can not be at Sam's, or BJ's. The card is free, you can check out the info online.

I posted this for informational purposes.

Have been an American Express Business card holder (actually have 3 for the 3 businessed) for ten plus years.

Never have encountered a "limit" on any purchases - but if I encounter them now then they can color me "Gone".

God Bless

I have used American Express for several years with the company I work for. We have several members who do have dollar limits on their purchases. This is directly affected by their personnel credit ratings. This can at times be extended if you call them ahead of time. It is not my first choice for use, and I only use if the company requires it due to insurance issues.

I'm with Dieselgem. The only limit is that the purchase must be less than 75 gal. There is no limit on how much you can save at the 5% discount. This discount also applies to hotels, restaurants and wireless services. I got it just recently (have other Amex Bus cards as well) and use it a LOT now. It's legit. It also gives you 1% on everything you purchase, tho this doesn't appeal to me, as I have better cards for general purchases.

IS this the Costco American Express business card or just the AMEX Business that gets the 5%. I have a gold AMEX Business card....does it get the 5%?

No, the Costco card does have some limits. This is the American Express Small Business Card, direct. I am not sure on the Gold, but this one is free, no yearly charge. You may want to give them a call. Additional cards are also free.

The only limit that I'm aware of on the Costco card is a maximum purchase of (IIRC) 75 gallons. The Gold card doesn't give the percentage rebate, but has its own points reward system.

Check out the Discover Open Road card. One can earn 5% on gas purchases up to either the first $1200 spent annually for either gas or auto maintences. There is one question I want to ask them though...it specifically says 'gas", are diesel purchases included??? (No, I don't work for Discover card...was just looking at their different cards for my own info!) http://www.discovercard.com/open-road/faqs.html

How does the reward work for the Business card? I know with the Costco card you get a reward that you must use at Costco shopping. Do you just get a "cash" reward with the business card?

The Amex Business Card we use is called the "SimplyCash" card. I get 5% on all gas, travel and wireless, as I said before. It is different and separate from all other Amex cards. This cash "rebate" is credited to my account each month beginning one month after the first billing/payment cycle. There is no limit on the rebate amount. 1% is given on all purchases not covered in the aforementioned business categories.
