This summer we will be traveling the west coast, WA, OR and CA. I have a motor carriers atlas, it shows most of 101 good for trucks but some areas are not OK. Anyone have any info on parts of 101 to avoid in a 40 ft MH with a toad? Also any recommendations on sites to see. Thanks!

We drove from Astoria to the cut off to Vallejo last summer. We had a 31 ft MH and toad. I did not have any problems. There were some areas in No CA that were a little winding but I would not hesitate to go again. Downtown Tilamook had really narrow streets but it was two lane each way through town. The cheese factory was an interesting stop and lots of room for RV parking. They also had a aircraft museum that is supposed to be nice but I have not been.We enjoyed seeing the maritime museum in astoria. In northern CA the avenue of the giants goes through some old growth redwoods. There are turnouts where you an pull off for a closer look. We went up a side road to see one of the groves and had to unhook the toad to turn around so be careful leaving the route.

I can't be much help with your question but having done the Oregon coast last summer I can say the Oregon State Parks are awesome! I don't think you could find a bad one! The highway was fine towing our 30 ft 5ver. A little rough in spots but no other problems.
Cape Blanco is great...several Light Houses to see up the coast. Sunset Bay is nice. A short drive down the Cape Arago Highway and you can view seals and gray whales. Further north we stayed at Nehalem Bay and Fort Stevenscomplete with a shipwreck.
If you prefer Private Campgrounds...they abound the coast! Just look at RV Park Reviews
Looking for "tourist" type sights...there is the Tillamook Air Museum and the cheese factory. Sea Lion Caves. Stop for a burger in Florence at the Hot Rod Cafe right on 101.
This is such a minute sampling! The Oregon Coast is a great adventure...enjoy your trip!

there aren't any places on the 101 in Calif. to worry about, that i can think of. i've driven it from the top to the bottom and can't think of any area that you couldn't drive. heck, semis use the 101 all the time.
now, Route 1 is a different animal.

101 in CA and OR follow the coast. In WA a lot of the Hwy is inland so you'll need to take side routes to get to many of the beaches. Probably my favorite beach on the WA coast is Long Beach on the SW tip of the state...it's 25 miles long and a great place to fly kites.

101 in No. Ca. does NOT folllow the Coastline.......If you want to see the coast, HANG ON and follow HWY 1.......101 is a piece of cake but also INLAND from the coast.

In Oregon the truck restriction is mostly due to weight limit on bridges. There is a few areas that have length limits but you will not have any problems. For the most part the worse for winding will be a stretch between Waldport and Florance. Has a few hills but will not be a problem.

I would not take the advice to switch to Highway 1 with a 40' MH and a toad in Northern California anyway. The road itself is fine, but sooner or later you are going to have to switch back to 101 and every time I've done that, in our 35' MH and toad, it was murder. Had to stop and let the wife recover. Very narrow, very twisted roads. 101 is great and in Oregon it does follow the coast. Thousands of places to stop and park right on or by the beach. Hope the weather cooperates.
