Check out pages 1409-1411 in the McMaster-Carr catalog
I prefer jaw to jaw turnbuckles.

Like to thank everybody for their good suggestions. At this point in time I am looking mostly at two items, the HD turnbuckle ( not Chinese) and the chain binder.
I have very little experience with chain binders and really would not know at this point what size I woul need for my job. They cover a lot of territory.
Thanks again you guys and I keep you posted what I will eventually decide on.
And I am alway open minded to more suggestions.

SoCalDesertRider wrote: Camper tie downs would probably work too, they are basically turnbuckles with some rubber cushion to them.
I use Happijac turnbuckles and they work great. They have a little cushion to them which helps. I contacted Happijac about the capacity and this is what they told me. "The hook straightens at approx. 3000#. The turnbuckle will pull apart at approx. 4500#". I looked at many other turnbuckles like the ones that most guys use and the rating is much less than 3000#. I also have a upper link on my extension which transfers all the tongue weight and rear pulling force to the truck bumper thus reducing the force on the receiver.

As suggested by SoCalDesertRider I ordered some HD turnbuckles with a breaking strength of 3500 lbs. I installed them this weekend and will give them a try this week.
Thanks a lot for all your good suggestions.

Be very careful with those stainless-steel turnbuckles. They will pit and corrode badly (you'll never turn the thread after just a month of winter use), unless absolutely meticulous care is given to them. Additionally, stainless-steel turnbuckles may break under the extreme duty of holding down a TC, they are quite brittle metals.
Good luck,

I had a similar problem. I simply put a jam nut on the right hand thread side. End of problem.
EDIT: I flat tow with a homemade 50-inch extension.
