I found a used Roadmaster Sterling on my local Craigslist for $200. Owner says its in great shape and barely used... about 5 years old and hasn't been used in the last 3.

Any cautions to check for on a used tow bar?

I bought the one I have now, roadmaster falcon on e-bay for $175.One of the bars was bent, seller claimed he knew nothing about it and was selling for a friend, whatever! I bought new bar and it has worked fine for 3 years.Just check for wear and damage, the price sounds good.

Roadmaster stands behind their products. Contact them letting them know that you have a Roadmaster bar that you would like them to check out. You will have to pay the freight to them, which is not cheap, and they will refurbish the bar and send it back, usually at no cost to you. We had our Stowmaster done last year. It looked brand new when I got it back.

Mke sure you can get a bolt kit from Roadmaster for it before you buy and that you get all the parts from the seller. We bought an older model and were unable to use it without getting custom bolts. Roadmaster no longer carried the necessary parts. They also use the same model number as the new one but the parts were not interchangeable. A lot of trouble and time involved.

That is a good deal on the sterling. I purchase a used sterling 3 years ago, it was very badly worn. It cost me $43.00 to send it to roadmaster, they sent back to totaly rebuilt at no charge.

I sold our old Blue Ox Aventa to the buyer of our Rubicon toad for $500 with all the wiring and safety cables, then turned around and bought a brand new Aventa LX with locks, a nice cover and shipping for $677 from PPL. There was nothing wrong with the old one but the paint was chipped and had some rust on it. Good deal for everyone as the buyer needed a tow bar on the spot.

Sounds like a good deal if bars are not bent .

Thanks for the insights. Must've been a great deal, somebody picked it up before I was able to get there.

Well, next time you'll know to jump when you can. I also purchased my sterling all terrain from ebay with the roadmaster guardian for about 1/2 the price of the tow bar alone. Both were obviously used, but cleaned up nicely. I took the tow bar to roadmaster when we were at Quartzsite in January and they totally rebuilt it for nothing (I did give the tech a $50 tip). It is like new works perfectly. I cleaned up the guardian and gave it a coat of protectant and it also looks new.

If you see another on ebay or craig's list...jump quick!
