I know we talk campers/camping here but the wife and I are taking a motorcycle trip along the Bluerided (hopefully end to end) Memorial day weekend ... maybe you guys can help with this ...

I know its problably going to be "busy" up there. Its probably a good idea to have room / cabin reservations. Ive been on the parkway in different spots but have never traveled along the length for any real duration. I know she going to give me the "quick three" tap on the helmet often; our signal to stop for eats, to look at something or to drain. So its going to be tough to know where we will be at night fall or when we get tired. Im figuring a 6-8 hour actual saddle time. But it will be probably along the lines of 10-15 hours with stops to look.

So from Hurdle Mills to the Front Royal entrance the nothern most entrance is about 5 hours. Another 3 or so should put me on the northern edge of Roanoke.

So question is ... can anyone recommend clean, fairly reasonable motels, inns, hotels, (biker friendly is ok) or even campsites with a cabin with setup like a motel might have. If we are going to be riding, we want a "motel/hotel like" room to so we get a good nights sleep.

Thanks again. You guys have given me lots of help in the past.

Regards
Chris

Just north of Roanoke, on the Parkway is the Peaks of Otter. I am guessing about 30 miles or so north of Roanoke. Peaks has a lodge and a restaurant. As you continue north on the Parkway, at the Otter Creek area is a restaurant. Both places have primivite camping. About a mile east on RT 130 from the Otter Creek area is Wildwood Campground. They have cabins and the Farmer's (owners)are great people. Both the Peaks of Otter and Wildwood have websites you can check out.
Hope this helps.

Remember, the speed limit is 45 and very strictly enforced so I think your times might be a little off.

I second the Peaks of Otter. Hit their Friday night seafood buffet.

If you are interested in staying at the Peaks of Otter Lodge, you better call to see if there is a room available. Website below:

After re-reading your original post, if you are starting at Front Royal, you will be traveling the Skyline Drive through Shenandoah National Park, which will require an entrance fee. Also, the speed limit on the Skyline Drive is 35 not 45 like the BRP. There is more lodging available in Shenandoah so you might want to look into that.

The Skyline Drive is 105 miles from Front Royal to Waynesboro and lots of places to stop and look. We drove it one Fourth of July and it took all day once we got there from home, which is about an hour away. We started at Waynesboro and went north to Front Royal.

Here is the website for Shenandoah. You might find something in there.

I'd give Wildwood serious consideration. It's close to the parkway and the Farmers run a nice friendly campground.

You say Memorial Day weekend--chances are Wildwood is full already as well as Peaks of Otter Lodge. Calling ahead would be a good idea.
