The problem with not locking it? The thieves already assume that the RV is locked! Therefore without even trying to door, they will obtain access by destroying their choice of windows, or sticking a prybar thru the door jamb and bypassing the "locked" door. If they have done a few rv break in's, they're pretty much unstoppable. A cheap battery powered motion sensing alarm with a auto on light feature is the best inexpensive way to scare away the amateurs! $40.00!
In 30 years as a cop, and literally thousands of reports taken, I've never seen a determined Burglar give up a break in unless startled by noise or a light coming on, whether it's a dog, alarm or a "who's there!"

If it's out of sight, always locked. Even at home in the locked pole barn, its locked. Both of them.

Some friends left their fiver unlocked and someone used the toilet. And I mean left a mess!  They lock it now.

Double locked, usually lock the bellies, too.
Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing plaids with stripes comes easy.

Locked and loaded, just like it's owner. 
I keep a spare door key inside one of those magnetic key holders and I hide it under the chassis. It saved me once when my son accidentally locked the door, as he was closing it to come outside.

Oh man, I never thought about a thief, in a hurry, just breaking a window and/or popping a door without trying.
Maybe I should just put a sign on the door ... "DOOR OPEN ... Please don't break it!"
Ha!
Also because I've never filed a claim for theft ... never thought about insurance not covering without an unlocked door. Hmmmm. Might have to rethink my position here (By the by, it's not my wife's position. She thinks I'm crazy.)
