The first part of June I'll be taking my elderly parents from San Antonio to Fort Wayne, IN and back in my fifth wheel. It's a good solid two-day drive and Memphis is just about half way. I'm looking for a quick in and out campsite near Memphis--probably won't even unhitch. I'll be switching between Interstate 40 and Interstate 55 in Memphis. I'm even open to overnighting at a rest stop. Any suggestions?

TIA

You will not get into Memphis. I-55 and I-40 junction is in West Memphis, Ark.There is a good campground in West Memphis on the banks of the Mississippi River but cann't rember the name, maybe someone else will reply.

I would highly recommend Tom Sawyer's RV Park in West Memphis at Exit 4 on I55 and Exit 280 on I40. There is another KOA (former America Best Campground) just north of West Memphis on I55 about 4 miles. If you get a look at the Mississippi River scenry at Tom Sawyer you will not want to leave, just a word of caution.

Tom Sawyer is the best bet. You won't even cross the Miss. so look for anything in West Memphis or northward to the Missouri line. There are plenty of great parks in the area, but none that I can recall close to the interstate. Personally, I wouldn't recommend an rest stop overnighter. There is a Wally World on the south side of West Memphis, just off 40.

On I55 North exit 14, 14 miles north of the I40/I55 junction is the ABC RV Park. It is easy on/off, nice folks, shade, all level pull-thrus - great for one night. We frequently use it on our way south.

We stayed in Tom Sawyer last week, in good condition after the river flooded . Plenty of river boats to see, one of our favorite parks

A nice one you may be interested in is Audubon Point RV Park, right on I-55, five miles south of Memphis. It's a little pricey, I think we paid $35, but it has the nicest, cleanest bathrooms and showers you'll ever see, along with cable tv, wi-fi, etc.. All the sites are cement pull-throughs, and the access roads are large enough to manuever a 747 if you want!

ABC is now a KOA.
Tom Sawyer is nice but it's not the on/off like the KOA. The KOA is right along I-55 frontage road. Tom Sawyer is further off the interstate and thru part of town.
