They gave me a fancy gas can with my generator -- supposedly required in Calif -- it has a spring loaded spout that seals up and prevents evaporation. Very nice, but it is really hard to pour gas gently without spilling, especially since the spout does not open unless you press down hard on the lip of the fill tube, which means you can't see inside to find out how much gas you still need to add until it overflows. (That's enough -- splash!)

So that is my question -- is there a better way? It kills me to splash any gas onto the dirt in a campground, for obvious reasons.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

I got this at a Honda dealer. Only gas can I've ever had that doesn't spill a drop.

I got the same can as 2oldman ... pictured above ... at a Honda generator dealer also.

He's right ... it's the most amazing gas can I've ever owned. It doesn't spill a drop.

See that little green button? BEFORE you pour, you press that once to release the pressure inside the can ... then release it ...

You then undo the yellow cap on the front ... and can tilt the can every which way without a drop coming out .... until you press and hold in the little green button.

Marvelous can. Comes in a one gallon and a 2.5 gallon (which I got) ...

I'm pretty lazy, but I'm going to go out to the garage now and see what the name of the darn thing is ...

Just a minute ...

Ha! The brand name is "No Spill" ... and the label says there's a website ... nospill.com.

I'll be darned. There is a website www.nospill.com

It's the most expensive gas can I've ever bought ... but boy, is it worth it.

Yeah, I think mine was $23. Money well spent. There's nothing quite as aggravating as dripping gas on your generator or getting gas on your hands.

I think my 2.5 gallon "No Spill" was $21 and change at my honda dealer ... but I just went to the website and found that a small town hardware store up the road from me is also a dealer ... I might go up there and see how much they want for one (I could use two)(I didn't know they had a 5 gallon one).

Folks, I know this sounds like an info-mercial ... but go to the nospill.com website ... there's a boating magazine article that "tests" gas cans ... and concludes that the staff favorite is the No Spill.

I bought the same can at Baileys. It is the best gas can I ever owned. They come in 1.2, 2.5 and 5 gallon sizes.

California is not the only state that requires spill-proof cans. I believe there are 16 or so other states that have the same rule, and is is proposed to become a National requirement in 2009.

Thanks so much! I went onto their site and found that Ace and True Value often carry the nospill -- and I called my local guy and he does and I am getting it tomorrow morning.

I wish there were a way to calculate the total dollar value of the fast, useful info that this forum provides -- I am not sure how I would have found out about this product without this forum. Even Google did not do the job -- I guess I put in the wrong keywords.

Let us know what you think of the No Spill

Remember ... the trick is to push the button BEFORE you want to pour to release any pent-up pressure ... then release the button to seal the container again ...

Then you can pick up, tilt, any angle you want, then press the button to pour ... when you are done pouring, release the button ... no drip

Pick up a flexible filler hose at an off-road store.
