If your going to a set destination, and you can save, lets say, 75 miles by geting off the interstate and running Federal and County routes, would you do it? What I'm trying to say is, do you run the extra mileage and try for better fuel mileage. Or run the stop and go side roads? Thanks

Life is a journey---not a destination! This is what's wrong with us Americans---trained by "you're defined by work---resumes---accomplishments---places you've BEEN---not experienced.
Who cares about fuel mileage savings if it's a place you wanted to go?
Paying $5.00 a gallon---it's coming folks--I have a diesel, it's $4.59 a gallon now--sucks for anyone. But, if I want to go to a place that's 100 miles off the beaten path, but it's something I want to see or like, what price can you put on your own happiness?
Do your own thing.

Depends if you are trying to save gas or want to see the areas. If to save gas, I would travel the extra 75 miles.
Have a great time camping,

I drive many state and county roads if it is the most direct route. I actually save gas by doing this as the speed is down and you see things that you don't from the interstate. You can usually time the lights if you get into a streach that has many stop and go lights. Randy

Let me get this straight 75 less miles NOT on the interstate.
Slower speed and better milage on the non interstate road. No brainer to me. And a more secenic drive without being rundown by the big rigs. Priceless.

How can driving 75 extra miles of interstate save gas? I prefer taking the shortest route if the road is suitable for RV travel.

If you have to go through lots of small towns the starting and stopping for lights will make a difference. Also, remember he is in Florida and these small towns love stop lights....

I say enjoy this country, see some of the land and sites that is where the memories come from, not at 65 mph on I-??. I vote for non interstate roads.
