We have the Mor-ryde fifth wheel hitch.I noticed this year our trailer will clunk when stopping or accelerating. Today I found out I could move the box front to rear and side to side by using just my two hands... not connect to the truck. Is this normal? Is there some kind of adjustment that can be made? We have owned the trailer almost one year. I did not notice this last year.

I do not believe that you should be able to move the pin box at all. Soulds like something may be loose. Recheck all bolts. If none are loose but the hitch is still loose call MoreRide prior to moving the trailer. It is a bonded rubber system and it may have failed. Not too probable but still a possibility. For safetys sake check it or get it checked prior to pulling the trailer anywhere.

I might have described it wrong. The box that connnects (bolts) to the trailer is fine. It's the plate that is suppose to move to absorb bumps while driving.I can move this manually by hand. I would think that that should not happen if adjusted correctly, as it should be absorbing the trailer load.I did send a e-mail to mor-ryde.

What Bluefreight and donhov are referring to are the plate. There is a large plate of rubber in there that is the reason the system works. It dampens movements between the pin and the pinbox structure. You should not be able to move it by hand.

The rubber can shear off and you are supposed to check it for cracks each year. You can check it using a putty knife. Any crack over 1" (Check with Morrhyde on this as this is what I remember and not necessarily 100% accurate) means you should replace the spring. Call Morrhyde and get a replacement. The only adjustment is in the density of the rubber spring supplied and if you have a really heavy trailer, you might want one a little stiffer than standard.

Is it still possible to tow with the pin box situation as it
is. I have the same problem with our trailer. Just noticed the same
when returning home from last outing. Alot of slop in pin box that
wasn t there before. We would like to take the unit to Morryde
on our way to Michigan for next trip.

There are two steel rods that keep the plate from separating from the upper section in the event of a failure of the shear spring. I would STILL check with MorRyde BEFORE moving the trailer. Replacing the shear spring should not be a big job and I am sure that MorRyde will send you a replacement under warranty. Casey
