Got to Daytona yesterday and drove 55 mph with a 30,000 lb coach and pulling 4200 lb toad.
Got 8.7 mpg. That's pretty good. Guess I would have done about 10 mpg if no toad.
Off to Tampa Wednesday

Toads don't seem to affect mileage as much as you'd think. Probably they fill some of the air hole back of the coach ad reduce drag a little bit to help offset the extra weight and rolling resistance.
One other factor. I don't know the altitude of your home, but Daytona is about sea level. Very slight differences in grade make a significant difference in mileage. When we run from Athens to Savannah (about 900 feet downhill in 230 miles) we get about 10% better mileage than on the return uphill trip. And it's not just us, this works pretty much for everyone in all vehicles.

Pulling a toad/trailer the speed limit is 55 mph. Speed limits must be for a reason.

Well I drove from Shreveport LA to Birmingham AL and on the way to Shreveport I drove 64 or so. That is right about 2 mile per hour above the dhift point of 6th gear. I got over 9 mpg on the way home I drove 75 to 77 and got 6.2. It is a pretty big difference.

Congratulations on your mileage event where, once again, we find less speed and more fuel mileage is better. I do remember those annoying fuel lines in the 70's when purchases were limited to 5 gallons @ $1.75 a gallon

We just tried slowing down from an average of 65 to 60, about the slowest I would go in areas where the speed limit is 65. We've historically averaged about 8-8.5 mpg, with our best being 9 mpg. I was shocked to get 10.1 and then 12.1 on two consecutive fillups after slowing down. However, I quickly figured out that the 30 mph tailwind had something to do with it. The next day our 60 mph resulted in 8.5 mpg, with a modest headwind.
So, the conclusion is that we should follow the wind- heading in the downwind direction if we want great mileage. I'm thinking about adding a sail or two as soon as I figure out how to get them under the overpasses.
I did find that the trucks are going slower, and in those states where the truck limit is 55, we had much less traffic passing us. As I said, going 60 is already creating some traffic "turbulence" with lots of folks pulling out to pass us.

I too have slowed down. Interstate speeds about 60 to 62. Didn't have any problems with traffic and mileage improved about a mile per gallon. Most trucks and RV's was also doing about that speed. Every once in a while, a truck or big rig pulling a trailer would blow by at 75 or so, but most of them was not getting out of the fast lane anyway. My guess is that they had somewhere to be that day but I wanted to see some of the country while getting there. To each his own.
