I need a soft start capacitor for a carrier air V 13500 unit. What is the best place online to order one?
Thanks!  my dogs will thank you too if I can get this to work with my genset.

What is a "soft-start" capacitor. I sell caps and hard-starts where I work but never heard the term "soft-start".

RV2Go is right, ArnoldService is the best. I ended up going to the Supco's webpage supco.com and used the distributor page to find a local distributor who had it in stock. It was a few dollars more, but I got it right away. Gotta love instant gratification!
CJW8, to answer our question, is it bad? that's a loaded question and I'm sure to get flamed for it, but No would be the answer I would give; However, I'll qualify it. If you're connected to a 30 amp outlet and you're 20' away from the connection post, then the "hard start" won't help you; However, if you're running a generator and you have enough amps to run it but not enough to start it, then the hard start will overcome the initial inrush of current that's delayed because your generator isn't putting it all out. Thus, you're giving the compressor more current than it needs to overcome the compression. It's bad if you're generator can't sustain the needed power to run the AC because the hard start will provide additional current that the compressor isn't designed to absorb and premature wear out the compressor motors windings.
javaseuf I believe it's a misnomer that it's a soft start or a hard start. It's a start capacitor period. While there's a capacitor in built into the unit, I think it's only designed with enough Microfarads to turn the unit over assuming you're connected to AC. I know that Hard Start capacitors refer to motors that are old and are hard to start and are at the end of life. I guess the concept of Soft Start is for a functioning motor, but it needs a little soft push to get it going? I don't know! LOL I guess it's the same as a Hot Water Heater. If the water is hot, why do you need to heat it?

Supco is a wholesale distributor requiring an account and usually has a $100 minimum order. You can go to their web site and they will direct you to a retailer.
