I'm looking into retiring from the Air Force and want to settle near Martinsburg Air National Guard base. While I'm house hunting I'd like to stay at a campground (full hookups preferred). Good Sam's website doesn't show any campgrounds there. Any locals willing to help out?

Thanks!!

Cheers!

Hi Chris,

If your not looking for a "resort" I'll recommend Falling Waters Campsites, in Falling Waters, WV. About 1 mile off I-81 at exit 23. Small privately owned no frills park. You can get FULL hookups sites including cable, weekly and probably monthly rates. I go there just to get away from home, and it's only about 20 miles away. It would make an ideal base camp for your house hunting. I'd be glad to help you with anything that I can. Just let me know,

Kitty

Does Falling Waters Campsites have many or any permanet camper/residents there ?
I mean run down campers, with Shady type occupants ? Just curious, because I was thinking of spending some time there maybe a month or so. Any info appreciated.

By the way how did your visit to Walterboro SC go ? And what did you think of Green Acres etc. Care to share anything ? Sunline1

Falling Waters has "NO" permanent RV's or Campers, so no "shady" characters. It is just a nice relatively small place that provides the needed hookups. Last year there was a rig there for the summer, but he was also doing some "grounds maintenance for them". I stayed there 3 weeks in '05 while my boinle home was being delivered & setup. Like I said, no frills for kids, sites are not huge, but you can have your awning out and you have a picnic table. I often for ther for 2 - 3 day stay, just to get away from work at home. Fairly easy to venture out from there to numerous places of interest. IF I can provide an more info, please feel free to contact me.

My Get to Gether in Walterboro, SC went great. I love New Green Acres. Sure wish we had campgrounds like that around here. Well, hopefully if I get to retire in 8.5 years I will be finding some nice places like New Green Acres.

If you're looking for facilities, I doubt the guard base has anything to speak of. All I've been to have a SMALL shoppette and not much else. No commissary, clinic, golf course, etc.

Yeah, I noticed that last week when I went to visit the place. Lots of construction but nothing of real use. LOL
