Just finished our second short trip with the new 5er. Shake-down cruise if you like!

One thing just made me shake my head in wonder, hence this post...maybe you can add a few too?

CG site pad was concrete....fine for us....but the exit off the pad was at a steep angle. The bottom line was that as we were pulling off the pad, the TV was pointing down at an angle whilst the 5er was still level. Gulfstream in their wisdom have put a little dome light under the front of the trailer so you can hitch up in the dark I suppose. On an eight foot wide trailer, WHY DID THEY FIT THIS LIGHT RIGHT WHERE THE TV BED SIDES ARE?????? If you can picture it, the side of the TV bed was almost hitting the underside of the bedroom as we angled down. Now as it happened, we just made it without touching the dome light. BUT....if the dome light was 6" left or right, I would have been able to angle down even more.

Never mind, not harm done! My point is that if the designer was a 5th wheel user, it would have been done different. Is there anything buggin you????

Mine is right in the middle of the coach exactly above the tailgate so when we go down hill like that... Ive already taken my light off once and that was on my first trip.

I can only say that the designers were a very specific size, since tall people, or fat people have a heck of time in the bathrooms! Most that I know have to leave the door open when sitting on the toilet....

Cabinets made with fake wood mixed with real wood! It doesn't match in color, texture, grain or appearance! Just looks cheap!

Gaudy, stupid swirly, pink/turquois/gold graphics plastered on the side of RV's!

Huge foot high brand names...MONTANA.

That's just a few!

Seem's most manufacturers do this...I broke mine the first time coming out of the CG on an uphill road, which intersected a downhill grade...Wham, Bam goodbye light. After the 3rd replacement, I just deleted the light altogether. Ordered a sheet, and replaced the bottom of the bedroom. No more prblems.

Another engineering marvel from the designer was to install the wire's of the main slide to a folding arm above the tire's. When the slide is out the arm is straight and everything is wonderful, when retracted the arm folds in on itself, with the bundle of wire 1/4 inch above the rear tire...ever traveled Louisiana roads? 2 hours and the wires were so mangled and melted, that it took 4 hours to re wire everything.

There's been a couple more items, but since I fultime in mine, I've learned to remedy the situations with a smile, and remember to look for these items when I trade in.

Good luck to all.

These things, any brand are built as cost effective as possible. Solid wood and other better quality items means more money and weight..you can get better but it will cost. Campers are not built for tall or large people. Of course the manufacturers "advertise " their product in the form of graphics...many over do it. We have seen plain white rappers.. makes them look cheap.

Would these be the same designers that put the TV antenna crank over the middle of the bed ?!

One of my complaints are about how steep the entry/exit stairs are. You can buy replacements that have an extra step and less grade so why not just add them (for safety sake) in the first place. I've been fortunate not to fall out my door a few times. I've heard many horror stories about people breaking their legs and arms.

I actually like the graphics. Just don't like the way they start peeling and fading after a few years.....

How about the gaudy, loud, awful looking fabric used for the upholstery on most manufacturers units?

And why can't the heavy batteries be put on the side of the 5er instead of the front, where the only way to put them in or take out is while you are bent over. This is really hard on someone with back problems already.

And in the booth dinette, why not make it at least 6 feet long so an adult could sleep there if needed.
