We got our recall notice yesterday and when we called our dealer we were told to bring our unit down to them. We were told that there had been numerous calls and that evidently our dealer is taking care of the problem. The letter we received told us that if we were using our refrigerater that we were to turn it off, do not use the gas, and that if we had to keep it on do not keep it on during the night.
Interesting to see what will happen when we bring it down.

We got our recall notice this week, however, we had the recall work done the week prior to Memorial Day. Dometic is really on the ball! HA HA pcm

Thanks to this forum I found out about the extension of the recall program which included our fridge. HAVE NOT been notified by Dometic or anyone else although it sounds like you should immediately stop using it.
Anyway, thanks to Poulsbo RV in Ridgefield, Washington the recall was completed yesterday with one day notice.
Thank you Poulsbo RV.

The recall is just a bandaid. It does nothing to fix the leak.

Last Friday just before I pulled away from the house for a 10 day trip, I noticed an odd sound coming from our Dometic model RM 2862. Long story short, the tube had broken and was spewing ammonia out. I shut off the LP and emptied the fridge into coolers. The RV was VERY close to burning to the ground. I never received a recall notice.

After talking to Dometic, I was told to go buy another fridge at my expense. This fridge had lasted three seasons and Dometic will do nothing about it. No warranty. No support. Three seasons for $1500? However they did offer to perform the recall on my refrigerator that was no longer useable.

Dometic - where Quality is just another word.

Mine was too far gone for the band aid and Dometic would not step up to the plate. I found a place on the Net that sells rebuilt cooling units. I will try that route. They claim it only takes about 3 hours and $399 plus shipping. It comes with written instructions and tech support by phone. Will advise you on how it comes out.

My fridge was made 4 years ago. It sat on the dealer's lot for a while and then in our driveway until we used it. We got three seasons out of it before it failed. The 3 year warranty wasn't any help for us. Dometic told me they wouldn't do anything about our failed fridge. What a bunch of crap. They know the joint fails but they won't step up to the plate and make it right.

Do you have a link to your source? I'm in need of a working fridge.

www.rvcoolingunit.net Check it out. The parts should be here tomorrow. Fed ex from Chicago. will advise
Sunday P.M. Its installed

I received the rebuilt cooling unit and with my wife's help installed it. I had some technical questions and e-mailed the vendor. I got answers in hours. I had a slight problem and e=mailed him on Saturday. I got an answer in an hour. Can you believe tech support on a Saturday. A cell phone number is also supplied for instant questions. The vendor said the Amish do the rebuilding and use heavier pipe to prevent more leaks.
I turned on the frig this a.m, before Church and now it is 2 p.m. I have ice cubes in the freezer.
The cooling unit comes with a 3 year warranty, shipping is paid for to ship the core back. there is a 30 day money back guarantee. and I get $100 when they receive the core. It cost $499 plus $25 shipping Fed ex ground. I have a Dometic rm2852 that had split a seam Dometic wouldn't step up to the plate even though there was a recall. Oh and about 4 hours of my time to change it out. I did it in my trailer. Slid the frig out, laid it on the floor. No special tools. A phillips screwdriver, crowbar, and cresvent wrench.
The website is www.rvcoolingunit.net Check it out

When I purchased my unit, dometic had a 3 plus parts and labor that I purchased for approx. $130. I had the recall work done in 2007 and the coils went out in 2008. I still had one year on the extended warranty and Dometic replaced the coils. Glad I purchased the extended warranty. However, the new coils included a cool down fan that is very noisy (can hear it on inside and outside of the unit). The old coils did not have this fan and I never heard the refrigerator before the new coils were installed. If the fan helps eliminate the heat and that will extend the life, I guess I can put up with the noisier refrigerator.

Has anyone else had new coils and had a cool down fan installed, and is it noisy?
