So, here's the deal. I use aluminum scissor steps on the camper and I tow a trailer (boat, ATV, equipment). When I set up the camper, I want to use those darn scissor steps but I cannot unless I disconnect the trailer and move the tongue over. That's a pain. And using a plastic milk crate to step up to the trailer tongue and then a BIG step up into the camper WILL result in a fall someday.
One thought is to make the scissor steps so they come off the camper at an angle or parallel to the back of the camper (as suggested by someone in Brad's thread about falling off the scissor steps).
Maybe some kind of support from the top scissor step platform down to the trailer tongue......
Any ideas?

Geewizard,
On our new camper the door is not centered and by off-centering the stairs a little more than the door I am able to put the stairs down just clearing the trailer tongue. On our old camper I just simply jack-knifed the rig enough for the stairs to clear the trailer tongue. In a campground with limited space this probably wouldn't be a practical solution.
I looked at your "Remote Alaska Camping" photo and it looks like some of the places we camp here in the interior up the Steese.

Your problem is exactly what led me to build this BIG step bumper.
It works very well when I tow a trailer of any kind.
This might be the answer to your problem too.

I replaced the tongue on my boat trailer. I made it longer. Now I can just jackknife the trailer and pull the scissor steps over the tongue.
Sorry no pictures at this time

On my Laredo I had an 18" stinger and the steps were offset to the left side of the door and I was able to use the scissor steps with out a problem.

Jacknife the trailer and the steps might clear the tongue. That's what I do with my flatbed that I haul my Motorcycle on.

Thanks, Chuck. Yep, that photo was from the Steese area near Mammoth Creek. I'm in Fairbanks, too.
