In a beautiful campground on the south side of Glacier NP last summer, the campground managers told us to let our gray water run on the ground. They had pump-out service every two or three days -- or as needed -- for the black water, but the gray water kept the grass lush and green between campsites.
I can hear the chorus of eeews as I write this. NO, there was neither odor nor food chunks floating around. It never occurred to us we were camped in a toxic waste site. (Kidding, yes, I am kidding).

"So.. NO, it is not a "Bad" thing to dump grey water on the ground in some instances... as for dousing a campfire with grey water ... follow the local rules... every place has different rules."
I think that this is the point that 90% of the posts on this thread has missed, there is nothing wrong with dumping it on a campfire, or anywhere else, IN SOME PLACES, and it shouldn't be a problem anywhere else, BUT IT IS, Whatever we think the rules SHOULD BE, doesn't really matter when the dude with the badge is reaching into your wallet. follow the local rules... every place has different rules."
