I would like remove some of the carpeting in my 2005 Cougar 281EFS so that I have a surface that is easier to clean-up. I had the panel under the built-in stereo removed a while ago for another project and found that the linoleum that is in the enterance way and the kitchen actually continues back and is under the entertainment cabinet.
I wondered if there is linoleum all the way back under the lip of the slide and - if so - if I can just remove this section of carpeting and use the linoleum that is there.
My only concern would be that the surface may be damaged by the method that was used to secure the carpeting (staples, glue, etc) and would be unsightly.
I do realize that I would likely need a couple of pieces of carpet to place on the floor when retracting the slide to protect the linoleum.
Has anybody removed this carpeting and installed another type of flooring or used the existing linoleum?
If it is not possible to use the existing linoleum, is there enough clearance between the slide/floor to install laminate?
Thanks.

Typically in RV building what you will fins is that they lay the floor wall to wall, or in the case of a RV edge to edge. Then the hard surfacing is stuck down and everything is built on top of this base. So removing the carpet will get you the existing hard flooring with about a gazillion holes in it from the carpet layers.
My 05 Trail Cruiser had vinyl flooring under the carpet in the bedroom. After 2 years use it was shot. I removed the carpet and the gazillion staples that had been used. Put carpeting with padding (original had no pad) in part, and left the vinyl (outside the bathroom) for part of it. There are a number of small holes, but doesn't look bad; the vinyl has enough pattern that they barely show.
I used an ice pick to carefully pry the crown of the staple up high enough to grab with pliers and pulled the staples out; there were a LOT of them.
Good Luck,
Doug

I removed the carpet and underlying vinyl and then installed new vinyl. Mine has been in place for almost 4 yrs and the s/o has not damaged the vinyl. Laminate, being thicker may be more of an issue. The vinyl I used is 1/8 inch thick and requires no adhesive, I have just 2 floor registers and a small bead of caulk around the edge holding it in place. It lays flat without curling or distorting so you can use trial and error to get a good fit, trimming it outside or inside the RV. By using a compatiable color caulk, there was no need for bulky trim or base moldings.
