For those that change thier own oil, where do you do it while on the road, I'm sure a dealer or truck stop will do it, but what if you want to do your own?

I saw a class "A" parked at an auto parts store, legs sticking out from under it. The guy was changing his oil. Looks like he had an oil drain pan.
I guess if you buy your oil and filter there, they might not mind. Ask the store manager, the worst he can say is "NO". You can usually dump your old oil there, too.

I did the best oil change of my life in ST. Petersburg, FL, as soon as we cleared the bridge coming from the South, overlooking the bay. I parked so the front of the rig would not be exposed and later refilled empty milk jugs with the old motor oil that I turned in at an Advance Auto Parts in Tallahassee a couple of days later. It was risky, I know, but I did not allow a drop of oil to contaminate that beautiful sand. Anyway, you know how many rigs drive around with a permanent oil leak...

You just have to find a quiet spot and do it really fast. And make sure you do not leave a mess behind.

This would be tougher to get away with than dumping gray water on the shoulder of the road in broad daylight.

The best you could hope for is going somewhere out in the boonies where NObody else is around. NO campground will allow it that I'm aware of. Then you gotta carry the old oil around. What have you got against a shop doing it?

Your best bet is to limit your trips to 3-5000 miles.

I would easily run 10,000 maybe even 15,000 just topping off the oil until I returned home.
Mine also calls for 5,000 mile intervals.
I do run Mobil 1 synthetic if that helps.

Add a by-pass oil filter such as oil guard, etc... they will allow you to increase mileage between changes... 15,000+ That's should cover most trips, unless you're full timing.

drain the old oil out, dump it in your fuel tank, put in new oil, drive on.

Being fulltimers we have had little problem changing oil. I do my own maintenance. When I'm due or close I'll ask at the park where we are. Only been turned down once. I carry an oversized drain pan and a tarp to lay on the ground. The old oil goes in the empty gallon jugs that the new oil has just been poured out of. Then it goes to Wally World, Checkers, Shucks, etc. I have had several park owners have me go to their maintenance shed area. No problem. Also we are Escapees and most of their own parks have a maintenance area provided to do this job.

bukhrn,
How many miles does your owner's manual call for between oil changes? You can extend that a bit, and there is no good reason to change the oil any sooner.

I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

It calls for 5000 mi.,which it will have, by the time I get to, roughly Billings,MT., but then it's another 3700 back home, I don't want to extend it that much.
