Ha everbody, I'm new to this web site, and forum. I'm currently in Iraq with the US Army, I have just about another 4 months to go on this tour. I just bought my first MH a 1990 Southwind, before I left the states praying God would get me home to use it. Now that is getting closer to demobeing I would like to get it wash and wax it doesnot look like it has a shine to it. And I wont it to look good before my wife sees it. Can anybody give me an idea of the cost of having it done? We should return back to Oklahoma City in a few month

Welcome to the RV.Net family!

It would only take you a few hours of labor to DIY, go to a self wash car wash, that has the soapy brush and spotfree rinse features, makes it soooo easy! You could use a spray on/wipe off wax from (example) Turtle Wax. And the best thing it that it will be done right (and cheap!). Plus you'll have the added benefit of being able to examine the seams and windows to make sure that the caulking sealant is in good shape, especially the roof area. You can recaulk and again save some cash and make sure it's done right!

And believe me when I say to you "Thank-You" and GOD Bless for your service to America!

Smitty, thank you for serving. You staying in or finishing out?

As to the cost of having it done, place I am at right now will do a compound and wax for about 16 a foot. Tat can get pricey, but it does a remarkable job. They use a buffing machine, have staging and it takes most of a day.

Doing it at a car wash, well it will be inexpensive, but it is also backbreaking to do it right. You are younger and in shape, so maybe it won't be an issue, but first days back in the world, you may want to be putting time to other tasks, and sublet this one.

Good luck, and happy travels.

I'd bet that if your MH was anywhere near most anyone on this list, they would do it for you for nothing. We owe you. I'm in Albuquerque would gladly do it for you.

Smitty,

Having someone rub it out and then wax it will run about $250 around here. Your's is likely a gelcoat finish given it's age and depending on condition that can be a lot of work. I recently did my 25' Flair and it was a days work with two of us.

If the paint/gelcoat is in really good condition (i.e. recently waxed) then it's a lot easier and you can probably do a quick wash and wax in a few hours.

Thanks so much for your service and for making it back safely. I extend the same offer as the others, come by Pleasanton, CA and I'll get some buddies and we'll do it for you while you have a beer and watch!

Best regards,
Ron

smitty5, I picked up our new M/H when I returned from Korea this winter. Drove to Florida through lots of snow and ice and after a couple weeks finally found a nice, big car wash and did it myself. It took about 3 hours to wash it, nearly fell off the top and did a split that nearly ripped my hips apart. Although active duty (27 years) I'm no longer a young man, but washing it and doing a good thorough job was nice. Although, I was miserable and didn't want to do any other "hip action" for several days. Use your tax-free money wisely and spend some quality time with your bride!!! Just my humble opinion. In Florida there were folks doing power washes for $400 or so... can't say what wax would cost, but can't be cheap. Good luck and keep your head low.
