Thanks everyone for the input, I do appreciate when the fan clutch kicks in, it is highly audible.
Now that radiator is out, have priced OEM unit, around 330.00 at Ford dealers.
Napa and Auto Zone both have aftermarket ie: Modine brand at Napa for 217.00, Auto Zone unit is 244.00
Any experience with aftermarket, appears to be exact replica's, or better to stick to OEM???

Just a note to update on the installation of the new rad from Napa.
Went in quite easy from the bottom, with front wheels driven onto 2 pieces of 2x10 each.
Then used front leveling jacks, placed five pieces of 2 x 6's under jack bases, and raised up without bring tires off their boards. Placed jack stands under.
Once had all connections done, did one last garden hose flush with engine running and drain open for 10 minutes at normal operating temp (182-190)degrees.
Proceeded to put in the 30.6 US quarts, ie: 7.65 gallons of new prestone & distilled water. Put in one gal.100% Prestone, then one gal.distilled water.
Mixed the next Prestone gal. into the first empty bottle and added a gal. of distilled to both for a 50/50 mix and put those two gal.in.
Then mixed the 3rd. gal of Prestone into another 50/50 mixture of 2 gallons 50/50 with distilled and proceeded to put it in, probally managed to get 1/8 of a gallon in, resevoir overfilled. Huh!
Therefore, only about 4 gallons (16 quarts were added) to a presumebly 30.6 quart system. Checked the freeze rate, it was only about -22. So drained out a gallon from the drain cock, and added a 100% Prestone gallon. Checked freeze level and it's at -43% which is needed for out climate here.
Anyone out there have experience with the complete refill, how would we be able to completely drain the whole system?
Happy to advise that on our trip to and from Maine yesterday our new Radiator and Fan/Clutch replacement functioned properly.
On the way to Maine last Monday, the new radiator kept the temps under l08 degrees (per my Scan Guage readout), mostly running in the 190-198 degrees.
On one long grade going north on the I-91, temp climbed to 120 degrees and the Fan/clutch kicked in about 3/4 way up the hill, and the temp quickly dropped to 198 before reaching the top of the hill.
Very pleased with the results, gave myself and pat on the back for a do-it-myself job well done.
Thanks to all who helped us on this 6+month project.
Well apparently my 1999 V-10 does not operate as stated above. We were in the very long, slow & high RPM climb into Yosemite over Tioga Pass (East entrance) two years ago and every time the temperature gauge rose almost to the red mark I could hear the fan kick in and the temperature started dropping immediately even though I was still climbing. When the temperature got down to about normal the fan cut out and it would cycle again when the temperature got high again. I don't noticed that fan noise under any other circumstances.

Sounds like mine was the odd ball as far as hill climbing at high RPM....but on the other hand I never did see the temperature guage register a high temperature on these climbs.
Gene, glad the radiator solved the problem. In my 50 years working on these things, a cold spot in the radiator will cause the fan clutch to do stupid things. We were in maine also last week, ran the coast from Portsmouth NH to Bar Harbor.
