Discovered today that my dang black ants are climbimng into my camper on my power cord. Never considered that last year when I sprayed. Caught em red handed today and hopefully that will solve the issue.

Had the same problem last winter in FL with some half black/half red ants. Took awhile to figure it out, then discovered hundreds milling about in the cord storage compartment. A combination of traps and spraying finally took care of them.

That is why I spray the ties, jacks, electrical cord, water hose every time we set up.

I was spraying everything but the cord and was still getting them and could not figure it out....

Hopefully this will safe somebody else the frustration if they read this. Thanks for your replies!

Hi
I have had poor results with spraying everything that touvhes the ground. There is just to many hard to get to places like the other side of the jacks, tires, tall grass awning tie downs, tree limbs ect. Next thing you know the rain falls and washes it off or one of us leaves a chair or something touching and they are in anyway. I have had some success with baiting. I use the Terro liquid bait traps. They use Borax and they work really well. I put them on the kitchen counter (of course) and anywhere else I see them. I also use Ortho Fire Ant Killer which is a powder that is available at grocery stores. It is a bait too and it works on most types of ants. I sprinkle a bit on tires, in the power cord compartment and wherever I see ants. I only use it if there are ants because it is more powerful. These baits wipe out the entire colony and give longer protection. The dry type ant baits that look like flying saucers do not work for me.

There's an Ortho product out there calle "Perimeter Home Defense". We had ant problems in the stick-built that defied description. Two seasons with this product and we're completely ant free. They're in the yard, but never make it across the sprayed area. Only needs doing twice a year and the sprayer is spring powered, so no pumping is required.

I'm sure it would work on an RV if used on anything that normally touches the dirt, and all the lower extremities, steps, etc.

Have no connection with Ortho except satisfaction with this particular product.

I use "AMDRO"
It's small pellets. I sprinkle a little around the tires, the jacks, landing gear, and all hoses etc.
The next morning the Amdro pellets are gone, but so are the ants.
At one cg we stayed for 6 weeks and never saw any more ants!
Good Luck & drive Safe!

We use Terro and sprinkle malathion (sp?) on the ground around the RV. We also hang no pest strips in the storage compartments. They last about 4 months and get rid of critters that make it past the other stuff. You can buy name brand no pest strips at Walmart or you can buy generic brand in the cattle pest control section of a farm store. Generic brand is about $2 cheaper than the name brand.

"Home Defense" spray is good too. It is oderless but works. We use it in our home and around the outside of the RV too! We have a gallon size for the house and a smaller size in the RV, which I refill from the large one when it's low. (I forget the mfg. name but it can be found at Wal Mart).

We also use the Ortho Fire Ant powder and it does work! Sprinkle on a mound and the whole mound disappears soon... Don't have to wait for them to eat the pellets of the other kind. It's great, but it is smelly!
