We really started looking for a TT. My TV is 2001 QC Dakota with the 4.7 with the 4:10 rear. Wife fell on love with the North Trail 28bhs with the uvw of 5,080 lbs. and about 45 min. south west. The Keystone Freedomlite 279TB is about the same layout with an uvw 4,755 lbs. and about 40 min. away south east. We are still looking due to the way the saleman act where the North Trail is located. Wife said she would sleep on the ground before dealing with him. So it look like the wife has made up her mind. Being a mother of 4 she won't put up with much.

All things being equal I would buy from a dealer who could provide good after-sale service. Good relations might be important if you have to deal with them in the future. Sometimes the dealer has to go to bat for you with the manufacturer and you want them on your side.

Hi L,
What is your GCVW on your TV? We have a 2002 Dakota Quad Cab with the smaller axle and we can only tow 9500 combined. Just curious how much of a difference that bigger axle is making. We're having a hard time finding a light enough TT.
Best of luck with your search!

We bought the Dakota used with the 4:10 already install. find that at when I called my local dealer to order the 4:10 and they asked for the vin number. They inform me that the guy who had the dakota had ripped the stock 3:55 out and upgraded to the 3:92 and within 30 days or so ripped the 3:92 out and then put the 4:10 in . Which if this was not done at the dealer I would have put the 4:10 in myself. Local dealer stated that GCWR for the 3:55 is 9500 for the 3:92 is 10500 and the 4:10 they projected it to be around 11000 not much more the 3:92. Tongue wieght is 700 lbs. They also stated with the class IV hitch Gross Trailer Wieght is 6700. I hope that will help. I talk to my trusted mech. and he said to back up and hook on to anything the ram 1500 would pull it will be finE. With that in mind what ever you pull you must get STOPPED

BEWARE! You will take a lot of flack on here for towing with a Dakota. Most on here do not consider it capable of towing a doghouse. Some know better.

The Dakota is fine, I took a 5900 GVWR TT cross country in an 02 RWD Durango with 3.73's. If I'd known then what I know now it would have been a pretty easy tow. My WD wan't set well by the time I got to the end. Maybe it moved, maybe it wan't set right originally.
The driveline in your truck is sturdy! Use synthetic rear end lube as Mopar says.
Just learn about weight distribution, get a real sway control hitch, and a high quality brake control.
If you keep within the rated GCWR, (combined truck and trailer maximum ACTUAL weight), you'll be good.

If I lived in Ohio, I'd go with RVWholesalers.com and save a bundle. Heck, I went with them and I live in Fort Worth!! Just order exactly what your DW wants

Wow! I'd heard of going to the 3:92 on these threads, but hadn't heard of 4:10. Have fun and best of luck finding your perfect TT!

I towed with a 2002 Dakota with 3.92. Guess what I burned out the transmission on the first small mountain we climbed. You are talking about 28' and 29' trailers. I don't think the Dakota is long enough for that much trailer. We had a 25 foot Kodiak that we towed with our 2006 Dodge RAm 1500 and it was just right. When we wanted a longer trailer we moved up to the Mega Cab which has the frame of the 2500. You have to have the longer wheelbase to handle the length.
