Just got back from Antelope Island on the Great Salt Lake in Utah. Saturday and Sunday were bliss.

Awoke early Monday morning to the sound of canvas flapping and the feel of the trailer rocking as a huge wind came through. Cold rain followed. This was my first big storm in my new PUP. Stayed warm and dry.

Storm didn't relent and by 11:00 a.m. I ended up packing up in the rain. Trailer is now set up in the driveway drying out.

We just had the most beautiful weekend in the Poconos. Cool crisp nights and sunshiney days.

The perfect way to end a 20 day vacation!

Well, our Memorial Day weekend trip was...well, let me just say awful. We got there at about 6:30 Friday, got set up, all well and good. Our friends got there, we played games, etc.
Until...at about 4:30 AM we started hearing the distant ominous sound of thunder. Soon after, rain. more rain. and more rain, and storms. Until about 1:30 Saturday. It finally stopped. The temp. through all of this, a whopping 48 degrees! Whoo, hey mom let's get the boat and go down to the lake, I want to ski!!
Anyway, it was just miserable. My dad got frozen trying to figure out the furnace for mom, Mom was stressed, our friends were on end, and I was stuck in the middle. We all decided to see the new Indiana Jones a few miles away in Kirksville, and that was okay.
The only good part was Saturday evening, we played Badmitten, ate smores, and had a good time. Then our fiends called home to get the weather. 50-60% chance for severe t-storms Saturday night and Sunday. So we decided to pack up our pup's at 11:30 at night and pull out, and drive 2 hours back home. It was quite an adventure.

It's what memories are made of. You will be telling that story to your kids someday. Good decision on getting out of Dodge. The number of deadly tornadoes this weekend was scary.

Add a battery powered weather radio to your camping gear folks!

Tyler, I feel your pain. We had some of the same stuff you did this weekend. Although it did not rain all the time. We were further south in the state and we did have some sun each day but lots of rain too. Even had a tornado warning Sunday evening which was not too fun. We took our radios to the bath house and stayed up there until things got better. Nothing hurt in our area which is good but we always seem to have some type of weather issue when we go camping. Our family motto has got to be, if you are in a drought just call us and we will come camping in your area. Your sure to get rain before we leave. It has turned into a running joke for us. Either way hang in there. It will get better sometime. It has to.

Every year (weather permitting, of course) my high school holds it's commencement program in the school's football stadium. On my graduation day back in 19**(you didn't think I was honestly going to tell you, did you?), the day started out beautiful...sunny and warm, so of course we were outside.

After all of the speeches, they began reading off the names of me and my classmates. The very first name was Akin, and with the sound of that name still echoing across the stadium, it began to rain. As the names continued, so did the rain. As we were forced to sit through the showers, our mortarboards began to droop. A school record 432 students, and we were soaked to the bone by the time we were done.

Afterward, my best friend's dad, who was a newspaper columnist, penned a piece for his column telling about the rainy day, and explaining very poetically how, had the day remained sunny and dry, we would never carry the memory of it so vividly in our minds. He was right. Even now, all of these later, I still remember minute details of that day.

Your camping trip will most likely be the same. Years from now you and your family will look back and remember what a truly great time it was that you were all together...good weather or bad. Carry those fond memories with you forever.

When we did our trip across the country a couple of weeks ago, we had hail in St Louis. Though I was stressed about the hail hitting the PUP, I figured the textured roof would take it. Then I remembered my Harley on the cargo deck and almost laid and egg thinking about the ice hitting my baby. Luckily no dents or chipped paint.

We went to Quintana Beach County Park close to Freeport, Tx. This was our first time "beach camping". There was a chance of isolated thunderstorms Sun & Mon, but the weather was perfect. The park was spacious and only a few palm trees. The wind was just ripping through there! The first morning was fine, but that night and the rest of the time was something else. Canvas was billowing in and out and not in a gentle manner! The PUP was rocking back & forth like crazy too. Luckily our back was to the wind, but the right bunkend really had some loud flapping going on. I had the kids sleep on the dinette & couch fold out beds so they'd have a "roof". I ended up placing my pillows and head against that flapping bunkend to control the sound, but my head and shoulders were moving against the wind all night!

Not to mention that I'm a light sleeper. This Mom just snoozed through the gusts. 3 long nights of wind and lack of sleep (did I mention the kids 1st jellyfish stings and Sunday's water outage?), but we are going back next year!

It is good to realize that if love and peace can prevail on earth, and if we can teach our children to honor nature's gifts, the joys and beauties of the outdoors will be here forever.
