Whats the purpose of a battery box anyway? Cars don't have 'em.

I believe;

1) to catch any liquid that may spill/leak out.

2) they should have a top on them to fully enclose them and have a hose that vents them to the outside of the trailer to keep any fumes from getting near a spark or into the interior of the trailer

#2 makes sense, I wasn't thinking about it that way. my batteries in now way interfere with the interior of the coach, but i'm sure some do.

good point

Nice Box!!!

Thanks for the link!

I'm going to run my two 12v as long as I can then go to the 6v system.

I just ordered up the Solar System from Costco.com and it should be here next week. I'll install it and hopefully this works well enough to maintian the batteries. I don't expect to have any problems in the summer time. . . it is the winter when we use our heater that the batteries are pulled down with the heater fan.

I don't know if I'll go with four 6v batteries. That seems like more than I need as so far my two 12v have done well for me. I'm sure the extra reserve power is nice, just haven't needed it to this point. I've got the generator and don't mind running it. . . heck that's why I've got it. Nice set-up though.

Can I get away with having just 2 6v batteries. I see more and more people going with a 4 6v battery set up. Is the main reason to gain capacity when the generator isnt running?

I used my 4 battery 6v setup last weekend and noticed a big difference in reserve capacity. Didn't have to use my heater at all, but still was always in the green (or good) range the entire trip only running the genny occasionally during the evening to assure a full charge. This years ELK hunt in November will be a true test to see their potential. Will post feedback when I get my trophy......

You don't need four unless you need four. Often four go in if you use an inverter to power a tv for a few hours, run the furnace 24/7 in cold temps and use a portable generator etc. Also depends on how well the group conserves power.

Two will work perfectly fine.

I pretty much only use my th at the desert, with an occasional trip elsewhere. Just the wife and I 99% of the time, anything im sure is better than the single 12v we have now.

Two 6volts will outlast a 12 volt, or even two 12 volts by a few days, so yes, it is a good option.
