Just installed a pullrite with cams and have read different opinions on ball height even on instructions and on here.What would be the general concensus on the right height for the ball compared to the hitch height.The ranges I have read are from 1" below to almost 2" above??

The rule is no more than 4 inches either way from level. The right way to do it is with trailer loaded and tow vehicle loaded including people. That compresses springs and gives you the real hights. Then try to keep trailer level by adjusting hitch. Remember 60% of trailer weight should be in front of trailer axle when level. Of course, check air in all tires first.

Why not set it up according manufacturer instructions? I see the one to two inches in the instructions, however if you read the instructions all the way through you will see that the final measurements are your gauge to a proper setup

The only reason I have a question is that onse set of instructions state 3/4 to an inch above ,another is up to 2 inches and yet another poster says he prefers to be below.I know there is a lot of factors involved (trailer level, weight on tongue ect..) just wondering why the discrepency for the same unit,newbie here with a new 31 footer and trying to get the setup right.thanks

You want to end up with the trailer level or slightly down in front. This is with the weight distribution properly set so the tow vehicle is dropping about the same on both ends, or a bit more in the back.
So, any setting you start with is just a guess depending on the springs of your tow vehicle and the tongue weight of your trailer. Start with the ball an inch above the trailer couple, connect and tighten everything, and see how it looks. Be ready to change things to get them right.

Find a perfectly LEVEL paved area eg parking lot, etc. Disconnect. Level your TT then crank it up a few turns. Measure from the ground to the inside top of the ball socket. Write this measurement down.
Your TV and TT should be loaded the way you plan to tow. People, baggage, full fuel, food, water, whatever. Then you adjust the ball height to the dimension you measured in the last paragraph.
Connect the TT and drop chain links (adjust bar tension) until you are back to the measurement in the first paragraph.
When finished the TC and TT should be level; no trail dragging or headlights shining at the sky or TT front end pointing down.
I see improperly adjusted TT's going down the road all the time.
