My Lance 815 has those Alm channels for a roll up awning on both sides of the camper. Can you buy a tarp or rain fly or whatever that would simply slide into that channel. Then I could use those adjustable tent stakes to support the outside corners. I don't want the expense and wieght of the perminent set up, just something I can put up temp then fold up and stow when not needed.

All you need to do is get tarp material and sew a 1/4" nylon cord into one side so you can slide it into the "j" rail. You should be able to get the nylon cord from an awning manufacturer.

I'm not a TC but what your saying seems a little cumbersome. You will still need a rod for the outer edge or the thing will want to droop in the middle. I would think more along lines of those quick set 8X8 canopies you can buy for under $80.00 and set it up where you want. when it's all said and done it fits into a little bag 4' long and about 8" square with a handle to carry. How about one of the "bag" awnings like I have on my old Lance? I believe lots of pop-up camper trailers use them also. the whole bag slides on the awning rail and inside the bag is the rolled up awning, poles and ropes all contained in one. During those times I don't want to use it I just slide it off the awning rail and put it in the garage. Actually quite handy.

How do you reach it? We had one on our pop-up trailer, and it was a pain in the b.tt. Seems to me like you couldent use one very easy because you have to be able to reach it,.. zip it open/up.

I am thinking of installing the same type of awning as I also have the same channel bracket attached to the side of my camper. I think I'll use some light-weight waterproof fabric (Sunbrella), sewing a thin sleeve on one edge that would take a solid nylon 1/4" stick that would slide into the channel. I would attach some grommets to the side and outer edges. Properly poled and staked, I don't think there would be any sag problems. I like the idea of its low weight and compactness.

Been using a 10'x12' for 4yrs. Green taffela nylon. WT 37 oz.
Use 7'-6" elect. condt. for up rights with guy lines (2@ea. upright).
Fabed removable caps w/ pins. Powder coated every thing green.
Total cost $47.00. Check out ( Campmor.com )for tarps. I used to use
