My prediction is RVing here is going to look a lot like it what presently looks like in Europe. They have had gas prices like this for a long time.
Little bitty cars pulling little bitty trailers. Either get used to it, or invent something better. Big government or Big Companies are not going to do it for you. Look at history. 99 percent of all real breakthrough inventions were done by one or two people doing something everyone else was making fun of. Examples, steamboats, railroads, automobiles, airplanes, etc. Heck, the computer you are reading this on is mainly due to two or three dudes in thier garage. Prior to them all computers were owned by Big Companies and they were happy with that. They saw no reason to change.
So don't hold your breath waiting for Big Business to invent the Captain Billy-Bob Hydrogen/Vegetable powered Pick Up Truck that gets 100 miles on a jellybean. Do it yourself.
Dang, my typing finger is tired.
Y'all have a nice day.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

Then the price of jelly beans will go up to $60.00 per bean.

Not the old boycott thing again. Is this horse not beaten enough yet?
You can't get two consumers to agree that the earth is round, never-mind getting them to agree to try any of the beaten-around boycott tactics of not buying gas at a specific retailer, on a certain day, $1.00 at a time, or risk their job and livelihood to not buy it at all and "shut down for a few weeks".

See, there it goes again 'high powered'
Am sure the gov't would mandate a max of 3hp on all karts so as to maximize mileage and reduce speed to save lives.
Hey, I got it. We could boycott all the car mfg's and the oil companies at the same time. We all get karts and drive to work. Let the big cars sit and rust and gas consumption would go down by a ton.
The 'big spenders' could get a 'kart rv', little fifth wheel that hitches to the roll bar on the kart. Everybody could point at them and protest their reckless use of gas.

How does it go? They can take my RV away from me when they pry my cold dead hands from around it. I know fuel prices are going up but you can’t get the smile off my face every time I get out of my truck and especially when the fort is attached to it. Sure the trips might become a little closer to home but we will still make trips. We have both been camping since we were kids and that’s when we met. I met my wife/best friend camping so all the more reason for us to continue with the good thing.
Little by little the things that have made our country great are being eroded and the current state of the economy is no exception. If the price of fuel (diesel now pushing 5 bucks a gallon) keeps escalating, our quality of life is going to go down the toilet including RVing. Personally I applaud those of you who thru the spirit of our lifestyle say that you will NEVER let the price of fuel stop your way of life but I honestly feel that a majority of folks will either not continue camping with the LARGE 5ers and coaches that many of us currently have, OR will not purchase them to begin with.
Wife retires in a year--that was our plan for seeing the country at that time. we still have it, but may abbreviate it some. I let my truck sit and will drive my 30+ mpg car around for nearly everything. then use the truck for camping. Kinda expensive book end, but .............
Can our economy REALLY stand $6+/gal fuel and rising? especially diesel as it moves our country?
It's just too bad Bush sits and watches it all happen!
I expect the next 2 years to be a good time to put a little cash away, because by next fall/winter you will be able to get the RV of your dreams much cheaper.
Things will gradually reverse, but buying season is ahead!!

If you wait to buy that dream rig the price will come down enough to buy gobs of gas.
Its all about survival. I bought my 06 quad slide 5th wheel to park for the winters down south. Finally, I'm retired and will haul it to a campground this October where it will be locked in on a yearly basis. RV's are still viable as second homes since they require little maintenance when parked, and you don't pay taxes.
My deisel truck is new, but I'm selling it and getting a fuel efficient car to shuttle back and forth with. Scooters that get close to 100 mi to the gallon sell for under $2000. The plan is to buy two and leave one home and the other at the camgsite.
In the future, I hope to buy a nice popop pulled by a hybrid deisel for traveling.
