Akio went on his first camping over an extended Memorial Day weekend and he did wonderful. Could not have asked for a better dog.
It was nice to have a dog with us camping again. We lost our Bandit 10 years ago to cancer and it was so hard to lose him that we said no more dogs. That was until our son pushed us to let him buy a dog.
Akio will be 8 months old on June 6th.

Glad to hear it's worked out well, he's a beautiful Akita, how is he around other dogs?
We have neighbors that got two Akita puppies a year and a half ago, despite their reputation these two seem to love everyone, they even play with the other neighbors cat, Jeepers, even my dogs play with that cat.

Thanks Sher. Akio is great around other dogs. We made a point to socialize him with other dogs and people.
I know of the reputations Akitas have and so far Akio is such a loving dog and wants to kiss everyone he meets.
He does wants to play with are cat but the cat is not to sure yet.

Their reputation may be well earned but just like some other breeds, how they're raised and the enviroment their raised in makes a world of difference.
The ones here have been real sweeties, sure changed my mind, I had not ever met one in person before and it's been a good experience.
Have fun camping with Akio!!

Thanks CatandJim, It was great and looking forward to many more camping trips with Akio.
Sher, When my son told me he wanted an Akita and the reputation they have I was a little worried, but after getting Akio I have changed my mine. He is such a sweetheart and wants to be everywhere we are at all times.

He's getting so big!!!! What a cutie! Ours does not hold true to the typical Akita reputation, EXCEPT, she hates all things animal. I would love to break her of it but at 6 1/2 I'm not sure she'll see things my way! (she was in the middle of a dog fight 2 against her once and it changed her)

Wow, he's beautiful! (and your son is cute too...) I'm glad you all had a good trip. I've never met an Akita, but I know their reputation. It sounds like your family is doing a great job with Akio if he is so well adjusted. Congratulations!
