Hello to all. This post is just a word of warning. We stayed at a Corp of Engineers campground on Buggs Island Lake over the Memorial Day weekend at Clarksville, Virginia. Great campground with a wonderful site (only water and elec) right on the water. We've stayed there several times over the years and I have noticed a sign going into the campground that says "NO Alcohol". I've really never paid any attention to it as I'm not one of those rowdy drinkers as I prefer to keep any beverages in a cup on my camp site. When we were leaving and standing in line at the dump station, I got to talking with some folks from North Carolina that were behind us in line and they were saying that two campers below them had gotten a summons from the park ranger or a county deputy for alcohol on Sunday night in the tune of $ 135.00 per ticket. Evidently they had gotten pretty loud. This is yet another example of the few messing things up for the many. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Happy Camping and Drive Careful!

Nice to see some enforcement going on! I don't see how anything was 'messed up' for you.

I agree with mocktutrle and fchhammer1. I want the rangers to bust the noisy crowd so I can enjoy my beer in peace. And if I'm not causing any issues and drinking it in a cup, who's to know what I'm drinking.

I couldn't agree more! We were at an ACOE park this past weekend also. I will tell you this... there were many beers consumed at our site. We never had a problem. If you are the type to drink and get stupid..... then you deserve what you get. If it happens to be a 135.00 ticket, so be it. I have never had an issue.

If you're behaving yourself, they don't even bother you if the liquior and mixers are on the table.

Just curious, which campground?

My wife and I were gate attendants at a COE park in Alabama. Alcohol is permissable on your site. Just don't get stupid. Other parks may have different rules, but I don't think so.

A lot of parks have that rule. It will give them "Probable Cause" if needed to quiet down the loud ones and if there are any arguments, they can go to the next step and write a ticket or arrest them.

I guess it depends on how it's enforced. For the rowdy drunks, it's great to shut them up, BUT if it's all simmered down by 10, or they just happen to wander around handing anyone holding a beer a ticket that's different.

Ah we'll typical government poking into people's personal lives. If you need rules and laws to back you up over telling the rowdy one's to shut the hell up than maybe you have other issues.
