I am now affected by the revised recall. From what little I have read about the fix, it's really a bandaid and not a fix. As I understand the problem is with an ammonia leak but the fix does not address that, merely somehow it's supposed to block the leaking gas from reaching the flame. Is it really worth the time to have this bandaid put on? Thanks.

I had it done, and I don't consider it a "bandaid" at all.
I liken it to a "heat shield" between a wood burning stove and a combustable wall.
it is basically a shield that will prevent the ammonia from reaching your heating element in the event of a leak.
None of us want or will probably ever have a ammonia leak, but if we did, I would much rather have the sheet metal shield which will prevent a fire, than not have it.
They installed mine in a half an hour

I had ours done last summer. They simply add a piece of metal to act as a splash shield which supposedly will prevent a fire should a rupture/crack occur. You are correct...it is a bandaide approach but it is free & doesn't take much time. At least it will satisfy my insurance should there be a problem and they ask if I had the recall parts installed.

Found out today that our fridge was one of the recalled ones. Called the company and they told me to shut of gas to fridge at fridge, turn it off, (Had to empty it, because we leave it running all the time.) Got an appt. Monday to get it fixed. I'm like you. Sounds like a bandaid fix.

Ours was a sheet metal burner cover and two thermocouples that shut off the gas if the temp gets too high. But it won't stop an ammonia leak, just cuts down onthe risk of a fire due to it.

IMO, best to get it done. As noted, it is a quick fix and, in the event you have any problems, you don't want it to be on you because you didn't have it done!

Got mine done. Just took a half hour. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for the "band-aid" but if it helps prevent a fire in our TT it's worth the time it took to get it done.

Service came out to my house and did the Band-Aid fix. Took about 20 minutes for him to install it. Basically, It appears that Dometic is doing the Band-Aid to get them out of the liability of a fire. Doing nothing to fix the actual problem.

We had ours done today. However, before he put in the shield the service man had me turn on the refrigerator to see if it as working correctly. It wouldn't ignite on gas, but it worked on electriciy. He replaced the ignitor, and of course we had to pay for that. But we were so glad that we found out it wasn't working now, because we are camping next week with no hookups for three days before we go to a campground with full hookups.
