DW and I are looking for a place to camp in Southern California. We are not familiar with the area, but want to go down there to visit some friends. We have some friends in Orange County, and others in the Ventura area. We are looking for an area that has things for kids to do, and also allows campfires. Any suggestions??

I am new to rv'n so I only know a few places. In the ventura area: 1) Rincon Beach is a line of 100 or so rv spots lined up at the edge of the rocks that slope down to the beach. No hookups but a great view out the side. only a few feet of level ground before the rocks for chairs, bbq, etc. not a lot of room for the kids. if they are old enough, they can climb down the rocks to the beach. 2) Also, there is a campground in Carpenteria at the beach. its more kid friendly with turf areas ,etc. its a short walk to the beach.

good luck

Hello,
I think you should check out Lake Casitas in Ventura!

I second the Lake Casitas vote.

In O.C., check out Canyon RV Park.

Near orange county you can stay at a lot of the local beaches. Check reserve america (www.reserveamerica.com). Bolsa Chica state park has hook-ups but is basically a beach parking lot. Doheny isn't supposed to be that nice. San Clemente and San Mateo also have full hook-ups are are supposed to be really nice (we are doing our fist stays at both in June). Further south, I am in love with south carlsbad state beach.

Be flexible in the dates of your stay and check the site hourly and you will get a reservation....

ReserveAmerica is the way to go if you don't mind the $7.50 fee. The sites along the beach are usually hard to come by so you have to constantly check and see what's available. Only bet around this time of the year, specially for weekends or holidays, is to get lucky and check right after someone has cancelled a reservation.

Speaking of which, I have a spot in So. Carlsbad for 1-night on Saturday July 5th that I will cancel at some point shortly. It's spot # 143. If interested, or if anyone else is interested, let me know and I can give you a heads up before I cancel.

Check O"Neill Regional Park. You have to make reservations.Located North of Rancho Margarita. It seems like a nice park.
