GOING TO OTTER LK IN A FEW WEEKS. I WAS TOLD I CAN'T BRING IN FIREWOOD FROM NY! IS THIS TRUE? IF SO DOES ANYONE KNOW THAT AREA FOR BULK FIREWOOD. WE ARE 3 FAMILIES AND LIKE OUR FIRES, SOMETIMES ALL DAY AND NIGHT WHEN IT IS COOL OUT.THANKS
I don't know about NY but Here in MI they do have a ban on transporting fire wood due to a bug called Emerald ash borer (might have spelled that wrong). It has been killing off many of our local tree species and they are attempting to stop the spread of these bugs. Might be the same in your area.
I assume you are referring to Otter Lake in the Poconos. Cut tree trunks and branches should not be brought into Pa. I have no idea if this is enforced. However, kiln dried lumber, such as construction scraps are allowed to be transported.
It is enforced if any official/semi-official (eg. cg staff) sees you with imported firewood. Applies now to most States and within some states even to individual counties/regions. Serious frest pests/killers are known to migrate on firewood so "clean" areas don't want wood that may be infested brought in.
Please don't break this rule!
You'll see on your to the campground, a guy standing on his front porch waving to all the rvs as they pass his house. He sells firewood in front of his house for a reasonable price.
Our first time to Otter Lake we didn't know about the firewood ban and brought wood from New Jersey. We were told we had to burn it all and to not leave any behind.
