No such thing. Probably one of the homeless people getting a bit entrepreneurial.

Agree that there is no such charge. Where do people get these things from?

They might be referring to Ontario's very expensive toll highway in the Greater Toronto Area called the "407 ETR". (ETR = electronic toll route).

You are not compelled to use it as there are other free (albeit busier) routes in and around the Toronto area.

My advice: stay off the 407! The private consortium that owns it has agreements with most other provinces and US states, and you WILL get a bill in the mail, since your licence plate is photographed every time you enter and leave the highway.

Enjoy your trip to Ontario!

expensive is right. we charge 30 cents per mile... plus $3.60 per trip if you don't have a transponder... plus $2.55 per month just so they can bill you. ("account fee")
The Florida Turnpike charges $7.5 cents per mile.
And they have to pay for all the staff to collect the tolls and build/maintain the booths etc.
We are totally getting screwed up here... but what else is new.
Oh ya... and we have cops every couple of miles sitting in specially designed hiding spots to catch speeders going 10 miles over the limit.

hmm I run the 407 every week and (almost) never see OPP
427 -> Concord

When I do see them they are not parked.

Any way to the original question: How they heck would they collect it? Our forces don't take cash.

Just curious.
How do they collect fines from someone who ignores the notice and lives in the USA?

They issue a warrent just like here in the states and if you ever come back thru and they get you, they will get their money. I know I got a ticket in a small town in Ont. and they sent me a letter explaining.

They're tolls, not fines. It's a toll highway with no toll booths. Either you rent a transponder that sends a signal every time you enter or leave the highway, or pay extra (for occasional users) where a gantry mounted camera takes a photo of your rear plate while you are accelerating onto the highway. Ontario residents can't renew vehicle licence stickers if they have unpaid tolls. I didn't know it affected anyone else.

I guess that's where things like PhotoBlocker and such are handy
