Is this what you would use to fill up freon?

We're still trying to figure out why the air isn't cooling...

Appears to be, but simply because it is there means, it has a leak in the system. RV AC's are closed systems that do not come with these fill ports from the factory.

Yes,
Its a sealed system but someone has brazed in the access port you are showing.
Before you fill check & see which type freon. Probably R22.

All RV roof-airs use R22 refrigerant.
Also, if you find the refrigerant low, then you have a leak that needs to be addressed before adding more refrigerant.

That is where you ck the freon but you would need gauges to do this. First question does the Compressor run. if it runs the large line which is the line you are showing should get cold to the point it is sweating cold water. It should still at least start even if it is out of freon. Did it have a cap on it? if not that could be your leak. If compressor does not start there are several reasons and if compressor is out and the unit is over 5 year old plan on buying new unit. Compressor installed will be more. Chances are as Peter said since it has this sweated in it has been charged before and has a leak elsewhere. To look for a leak you will look for oily or dirty spots.

If you have a good A/c guy for you home he may be willing to service your unit cheaper than the dealer. Some will not work on them. If you were closer you could bring it buy and could charge it for you. If compressor does not start there are multiple things to ck but will not go into them yet.

Good luck and by looks it may be time for a new system. Let me know if I can help any further.

If that AC is the original (1994), I would NOT pay to fix it. It would be best to replace the upper unit. Doug

It is old and has been repaired once. Get a new unit.

I suggest an E-Mail to Golden HVAC, a poster who runs an A/C business. I believe he's the best source of A/C info on the forum. I used to do that stuff, too, but I am not comfortable advising a novice - been too long!

What you are showing is a charging port that was added because the unit at some time leaked, and was recharged.

This is where freon would be added. You need a set of charging gages and lines and a source of R22.

In that you are asking this question, I suspect you don't have the required license to purchase R22.

You need to find someone with the equipment and expertise to check system / find leak / fix leak / evacuate system / recharge system. These systems are nothing more than window AC units in a different package; any AC repair tech should be able to fix them. If this is a 12 year old unit, I'd think hard about replacing it. A new unit is in the $ 500.00 to $700.00 range and is a resonable do it your self project.

Regards,
Doug
