We are planning a fall 2009 trip to Acadia National Park to enjoy the wonders of the fall foliage. Would appreciate any advice on RV campgrounds that offer hook ups as well as great sites with a view. We are 40 foot with slides. Also any advice on “what is a must to do” as well as what Lobster restaurant is the best would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I was up there last fall, It's a pretty crabby place (Lobster wise that is). Most of the camp grounds close down shortly after labor day. So you'll want to check with locales that come on here. But what you will have to do is the following. Get a good camera. I mean a good camera, and go the to top of mountain in Acadia National Park before sunrise. As the sun comes up you see some of the most beatufull sites. In the fall the air seems so clean and alot less humidity so everything comes so much clearer. You'll love it. JM2Cents Bill.

Note: I stayed in the KOA near the town. The KOA was 20 Plus dollars more a night and to be honest I wasn't there for the trailer park.

Bar Harbor KOA is open until Columbus Day weekend. It's about an hour from Bangor and 20 minutes outside Acadia. Great park-pricey but worth it.

Life is too short to spend it all in one place!

Wellll, a few, maybe, but I would say most stay open until after Columbus Day. In any event, don't worry about finding a place to stay. There are frequent discussions here and reviews on rvparkreviews, and you've got plenty of time to do your homework and plenty of places to choose from.

Fall is a great time to visit Maine and Acadia. Normally some foliage color can be seen late in September, but the peak in that area is the first week or two of October.

There are height restrictions in parts of the national park so either bring a toad or take the Island Explorer (free), which has regular stops at area campgrounds.

Good luck in your planning. You've come to the right place with your questions.

We satyed at Smugglers Den is Southwest Harbor and it was very nice.

Like someone else said, take the Island Explorer bus service right out of the CG.

Desert Narrows is a good campground and is convenient to Bar Harbor and the Park.
