We have owned two truck campers and plan on buying a fifth wheel for retirement semi-fulltiming. We plan to keep our Citation camper for those out of the way places and boondock adventures we love so much, and plan to keep our 2003 Silverado Duramax 1 ton as the tow beast. We are seriously considering a 31ft Sunnybrook Titan with all the options and need a hitch that we can take out so we can use our slide in camper. Any recomendations as to a removable hitch that does not involve adding height to the bed to get the camper in? The Citation has an aluminum tube frame and the bottom is raised about 1.5 inches on the botttom bars.

Easy. B&W turnover ball hitch system with the Companion 5th wheel hitch. It's easy to remove and leaves nothing in the bed of the truck. It's very beefy and well made.

There are several options for under bed rail mounts. Link to Husky site This keeps the bed clear when the hitch is out. Hope this is what you're looking for.

Thanks Murgatroid and Champ198!! I probably will have many more questions for this forum as we enter the fiver scene! Backing up a 31 ft trailer is going to take some getting used to also. Now, with the camper (we have a backup camera) getting into and out of parking lots and campgrounds and tight spots is pretty easy but with a tail as long as that...

Pullrite also makes a hitch that hitch rails remove completely from the bed. Not cheap, but it is a great hitch.

I have the B&W and I second it. Its a bit pricy but it leaves nothing in the bed once out except for two U shaped peices that have springs if you need to chain something down, and those don't stick up at all.

If your hitch has bed rails, couldn't you just put in a 1 inch thick mat in the bed cut around the rail? Your camper would sit on the mat and it shouldn't cause any damage to the camper.

I've got the Pullrite Super Fitfh with the Super Rails. You're correct about it not being cheap,but its very easy to remove and store when not being used.
The hitch comes apart in 2 pieces so you're not hefting the entire hitch all at once. The rails come out of the bed with 4 pins.
Takes maybe 5 minutes to remove.
