I have a 1996 Coachmen Class C Leprechaun Diesel. The last time the MH was registered was 2005, so I assume this is the last time the generator was run. It has a 3.6 Onan LP generator model 6KYFA26120E with 100 hrs. The generator is very hard to start at times, however, when WD40 is sprayed into the carburetor the generator easily starts {tips from Gunny357 forums} and runs great and restarts easily after shut down until the next time it is needed resulting in hard to start without WD40. It ran perfect for over an hour shutoff and restarted without any problems. What is causing this starting problem when the generator hasn't run for a while? Any help Thanks Bill
There are a lot of things it could but I found when mine got hard to start I found the large propane hose that went from the regulator to the carb had a low spot that had accumulated oil that had come out of the propane and was restricting the very low pressure propane flow. I dumped the oil out of the hose and the problem was gone.

Oil in the system is a major problem with LP gensets. We had to have ours rebuilt under warranty ($927) because we got some bad LP on a trip. There should be a valve on the carb that you need open and drain often (every other month depending on use). Check your owners manual or go on line to find that valve.

Liquid usually take a little more cranking for a start if they haven't run in a while.
If vapor, look to the demand regulator which will be a large, thin, flat device. There are a couple of vents on them that sometimes get clogged with insect nests. For some reason mud daubers and spiders seem to like to hang around those things. Be sure the vent, there may be 2 of them, are clear. Those regulators can be a little difficult to get adjusted properly, PM me and I'll tell you how I do them.
If vapor, how is this demand regulator mounted? horizontaly or vertical? Onan did mount them horizontally for a while and found that wasn't a real good idea.
Demand regulator might be sticking, oil from the propane wil foul them eventually, wouldn't think so with 100 hours but then it is possible.
If I go too long between start ups on my propane generator on the TC it is very hard to start. Since I also turn off the tanks during storage I think the propane bleeds out. The generator is tail end Charlie on the system. I've learned to light the stove and then turn on the heat. The generator is after the heater.
