Have new KZ 40' 3 axle not shocks on axels, although the lower plate that the u clamps clamp to has provisions. My old HR 3 axel had shocks, very short. The Kz does not have any welded brackets on frame. Should I opt weld brackets and and shocks? Cost? and advantage? Thanks

I have no idea what cost would be. I am very surprised there are no shocks. Heck, I have shocks on my 16foot 2 axle flatbed.
The advantage is same as on your car or truck. Rebound control on lumps and bumps. They slow the springs down so they don't try to toss you in the air after each bump.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

I think shocks are a must. Another alternative would be Equa Flex by Trailair.

There is an old rule....if it is round. black and rolls on a road, it should have shocks and be balanced.

I guess I was thinking most 5'er didn't have shocks. While shopping for a new 5th wheel I found that on a cougar, its a require option on the west coast 292RKS, but isn't mention on the East. Living in Texas, I'm trying to find out if I can get the shocks. I also think its a plus, esp for rear kitchen.

My Everest had tiny little shocks on it...improperly installed as the mounts were not in line. Last year I discovered that two were broken at the mounts and I took all four off...I drove it around and noticed no difference whatsoever. I towed it to Arizona for the winter and then back to Canada. I noticed no difference. The trailer tows VERY well and I am not going to replace the shocks. Try driving it around without shocks and see if it bounces. If the springs are matched correctly for the trailer weight, it might not need them. If the trailer bounces up and down excessively at the rear...maybe you need them.

If a spring is strong enough to support the weight, then it is strong enough to toss it in the air.
The shocks do not add to the ability to carry load. They just slow down the compression and extension of the springs.
If the "heavy" theory worked, then trucks and SUVs wouldn't need shocks.

I have a KZ that had brackets for shocks, but no shocks. My previous Carri-Lite had shocks, so I bought some from Napa by measurement and put them on. I think they help quite a bit.

I have had five 5th wheels, two were Alfas. Two did not have shocks and one was the newest Alfa. After towing them around, I have seen no difference in the towing or the ride. They wont hurt but I see no requirement that they have them.
