Chris...I have added shocks to a number of trailers..all made a big difference. I would have brackets welded on as high up the frame as possible to get the longest shock on, (about a 30 degree angle to the axle). Monroe RV gas shocks are available vs hydraulic (major difference) from NAPA or StengelBros.com (they have great specs and are $25 each). Their specs will allow you to choose the right shock (probably in the 555001 area). Don't let the picture fool you they are bayonet ends. I assume??? your existing brackets just have a hole in them so you will want bayonet style?

Couple of tips (no sense making mistakes that have already been made:
---Make sure to leave enough spacing on your brackets for the bayonet end (top) and spacing away from the frame for the shock "shoulder".
---Make sure you have enough spacing between the tire sidewall and the frame for the shocks to clear properly (don't forget the axles "walk" a little bit during a tight turn).

Probably scared you off by now....it can be a bit labor intensive, but I've never regretted doing any of them. PM me if you have further questions.....Brian

I have no shocks on the 5vr, went with Equa-Flex. Check it out, much better system. I ordered it with the 5vr, and installed it on the previous tt

I added shocks to my 06 3000rk Montana because it bounced and swayed. Eliminated problems and rides much better, cost was around $500 for parts and labour. On the Keystone products they mount at about 35 degrees which Moryde
showed on the install kit

I've added them when they weren't there and replaced them on units when they were bad. They've always made a big improvement. I won't have a trailer without them anymore. stengelbrothers.com had the best price. Get gas magnums! Craig

Go to stengelbros.com....they have full specifications for the Monroe RV Gas Magnum (a great shock). About the only thing you need to do is know your static length (with trailer sitting level measure the distance between the upper and lower shock mounts). Using that measurement, and their specs chart you should be able to determine which shock it is that you need. You will probably be looking at a 555001, 555002, or even a 555025. Call them, they are great to work with, and as mentioned each shock is only about $25....FYI...Brian

whihteeyed42....

Sorry it took me so long but I finally found my data...you, and others who want to change or add shocks may be interested:...

Hydraulic# MonroeGas# Compacted Extended Operating Range
19176 555001 7.875" 11.875" 4.00"
18864 555002 8.625" 13.500" 4.875"
19188 555025 9.550" 14.550" 5.00"

In most cases the shock number is on the base of the shock. The measurements shown are from the shoulder of the shock (where the shaft starts) to the other shoulder. These are all bayonet end (threaded). For the "ideal" sized shock your static length should be the compacted length of the shock plus one half the operating range. As a caveat (since things change time to time) I do suggest checking the StengelBros.com website for the latest info.....FYI..Brian
