I have CAD (Coronary artery disease) and was just scheduled for open heart surgery. I also have diabetes and this happens in the midst of preparing to go full timing. I there a cookbook anyone would recommend for good heart health (low cholesterol) and diabetes?

I would suggest you ask your cardiologist for a recommendation. Best of luck with your surgery and recovery.

Good luck with your surgery, I hope you're on the road to recovery super quick!
I agree with brirene, you Doc will recommend the type of diet you should be on. From there, I would suggest a trip to the local library to explore the books that fit your diet recommendations. Check out several and find the one that suits you before you purchase anything.
I'm not on a "diet" but I started making some pretty bold lifestyle changes at the beginning of this year, including cutting out dairy, wheat and refined sugar out of my diet. I'm SO much healthier, and I've lost 20 pounds, and I repeat, I'm NOT dieting, in fact, I eat like a horse! My choices are just different now. It was easier than I thought it would be. Once you've got some idea of your diet, I probably have some great recipes I'd be happy to share with you!
Again, BEST of luck with your surgery and the lifestyle changes you will be making afterwards...

The way I got my diet consuling was throught cardiac rehab after my quintuple bypass. I highly recommend it for anyone going through heart surgery of any type. Your insurance, or even Medicare pays for it and you'll get lot's of exercise as well as diet and lifestyle consuling.
As an aside I used to drive the dietician crazy when she'd ask if colesteral had any function?. I'd answer yes, flavor.

In addition to all the info you get from the rehab, check out the American Heart Association cookbooks. They have several that are superb, including one on heart healthy cooking for the holidays.
Wishing you the best in your upcoming surgery, recovery and rehab. What a great thing to be fulltiming and have a lot less stress in your life - that, in itself, will do your heart good.

Have your gut-plumber send you to a registered dietitian so that your insurance pays for the consultation. There are also diabetes specialty nurses (or other providers) that provide diabetes education including dietary information (and many of these are sharper regarding diabetes than the docs except edocrinologists). All this is under Medicare or insurance. This is no time for amateur hour.
I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

I can tell you that this works!!
Buy Dr. Dean Ornish's "Reversing Heart Disease" and follow it like a religion.
Another book is: The McDougall Plan by Dr. John McDougall (follow it as above)
YOU ASKED AND I'M TELLING YOU
If you want to get serious and enjoy a longer life you have to make some radical changes. Follow the advice in these books for 6 months and see if you don't feel better! It won't be easy but so what, it's your life and you may not have much left of it if you don't follow their advice.
Sometimes a "wake up call" is the best medicine, don't lose the opportunity, do what's right!!

Best of luck with the surgery.
Brirene and SwanInWA had great advice. Go from you doctors office to the library. There you can actually browse through the books. The cookbook collection is the second largest in my local library (no, I didn't ask what was #1 ). They must have at least 50 cookbooks specifically on heart healthy recipes.
