I remember seeing here a few years ago about a modification to pump gray water into the black tank. I did a search and cannot find it. It utilized a small pump. I am so tired of filling my gray tank and barely enough in my black tank to register. My 2 tanks are fairly close in the rear of my Terry 18T6. Thanks in advance.

Thought about do this as well for the same reasons. All I was going to do was to reroute the bathroom sink to drain into the black tank. It should help with the black tank draining process and take a light load off the gray tank. Just haven't got around to doing it yet. Good luck with your project.

Camping world sell a valve that fastens to the valve outlet where you put your hose, With this valve closed, you can open the gray, and the black valves, and let them equalize if you want, with out loosing anything.

I did it using an extra 12 volt water pump that I had. For the plumbing connections I had a tnk shop spin weld a 1/2" fitting into the wall of the grey tank about 2/3 of the way up from the bottom, then ran a line with a valve from that to the pump inlet. The pump outlet has a garden hose connection that I connect to the factory-installed black tank flusher. I wired up a switch to control the pump. It works just fine and allows me to extend my dry camp stays by a couple of days. The only problem I have had is that food particles in the grey water sometime clog the strainer on the pump.

A quick-and-dirty way to do it without putting a new fitting on the grey tank is to get one of those hose adapters that go on the dump valve.

Hi,

You might be able to find a tiny bilge pump at a boat store. See if they have one less than 5 amps, that is protable, and can plug into a cigarette lighter. Then (this works best if you have a tub/shower) you can let the shower water stay in the tub, and pump it into the toilet with the small pump.

I used to use a small plastic cup to store 1/2 - 1 gallon of shower water in a old gallon jug, for flushing at night. This also saves fresh water from being used for that purpose. I use a dishpan that is about the width of our tub/shower, and use that to capture about 1-2 gallons of water, that gets dumped into the toilet.

I think this also helps clear out the black tank - it should be 1/2 full before dumping anyway, and I have 42 gray and 59? black water tank size. When parked in the desert for long times, I rarely fill the gray tank at all and I have never gotten the black tank over 1/4 full until just before cleaning it out.

You can also do the dishes in a dishpan, then throw the water into some thirsty looking bushes, or if that is not allowed, then into the toilet, or store in a gallon jug for flushing water.

Fred.

Hi, we were concerned about filling up the gray water tank too. A year or so ago, I read somewhere in these forums about dumping your dishwater down the toilet instead of the kitchen sink.

Since we always use a basin to wash the dishes, it is really easy to pour the water down the toilet (just have to be careful since my basin usually has more liquid than the toilet will hold at one time).

This helps with the distribution between the gray and black water tanks, and it also helps dilute the black water tank contents.

As I notice the black tank filling too much and depending on how many more days we have, I then start to dump the dish water down the sink.

google "the 12 volt side of life"

Although it is an interesting article, he has pictures and instructions on how he did this modification.

I just use a bucket. Draw off some gray water, dump it down the toilet. Simple, cheap, works. For the number of times I have to do it, doesn't seem worthwhile to mod out the camper with new piping, pumps, wiring, etc.

If campground has an outside sink, sometimes I'll dump it down there. Of course, it's also good to put out campfire, but that's another thread.
