Has anyone driven their RV from Williams AZ the 50 miles or so north to the canyon....and if so, is it a steep hard climb or what?
I'm also looking at some of the KOA's in williams.... with the nearest one just having the basic accomadations, as there was a fire that destroyed some of the park.
I know there is a train that goes with one of the other rv parks and may consider that also, even though it's somewhat expensive.
I don't have a toad, so my options are somewhat limited.
I'm presently in CA and plan a visit there after a stop in vegas.

Don't think you'll hit any steep grades!

You should have no problem, there aren't any steep grades. The train runs from "downtown" Wiliams to the canyon, looked like fun to me, but we drove the toad. We stayed at the KOA on the East side of Williams and it was pretty nice, but that was last fall and it might have been the one that was damaged by fire.

I was there in March this year, stayed at rv park north side of I40 at the turn into Williams.
Drove my toad to the Canyon, i did meet lot of rvs on the road going both ways to the canyon and back.Yes there are rv parks at the canyon as well as on the road to the canyon and no hills at all to bother you.
New rv park was been built about half way on the road to the G.C.Do not know the rates or site availability, you will have to check before driving up to the G.C.
As far as the train you can be a lot more flexable in your own vehicle, the train is expensive and you are on their schedule.Go early in the morning as it gets very busy.
It is a great place to see.,
Have fun..
If you are into aircraft a great museum is on the way up to the canyon.

We stayed at the Circle of Pines KOA on the east side of Williams, they have van tours and provide lunch, the young lady that was our van driver knew exactly where to go and what to see. Grand Canyon National Park is huge. I am sure they are ok, for I got a workamping offer from them in march. the terrain is pretty much flat, the traffic as you near the entrance to the canyon is very heavy.

I drove my 39' DP (without the toad) up that road from Williams (Hwy 180) and it's a nice, flat drive (November, 2005). It was hard to find a place to park the motorhome inside Grand Canyon Village - finally found a parking lot near the west end of the loop with RV/bus spaces (you might ask the Ranger at the entrance gate for an update on parking).

My challenge was to find a place to view the Canyon from inside the motorhome (I had my elderly mother with me). I drove the road that leads east out of Grand Canyon Village (also Hwy 180) until I came to some viewing areas where I could pull the rig up to the edge - quite nice.
