A generation and a half, actually. I neither said nor implied that younger generations are lazy, bad, or mean. As for working 50 hours a week - oooohhhhh, I'm impressed! Every generation has done that and some have done more. Good for you for being a fireman, a noble profession. So is a policeman, soldier, retailer, physician, etc. You don't get a pass because of your profession. Be thankful that you have a job, a family that obviously enoys your company or they wouldn't be camping and live in a country that cares for individual's rights.
Waving is dependent on the area you are in. Down in Kansas rural areas you get a lift of the index finger off the steering wheel. Probably in certain large cities you will get a vigorous middle finger salute .
I wave to people in my local area who I know, but if I see you wave I might wave back, but generally miss it because I am concentrating on the road and views and not who is in the RV coming towards to me.
I always wave to fellow RVers, never could figure out why I never got a wave or knod back.
Seems like you have to be in the right club... Fellow Jeepers wave. I guess I'll keep waving and just maybe I'll get a wave back every now and then again....

I don't think that the OP said anything about the younger generation being lazy, bad or mean. As far as you working 50 hours a week. In 1968 I hired out on the railroad in train service and we worked 16 hours a day (112 hours week) at one time I done this for 72 days straight. What does being a part time fireman have to do with waving when you met another RV?? I guess I'll just keeping waving when I want!!!

Tyler
After you left the PUP people asked each other "who the heck was that?"
If I wave, you might want to become my friend. My list of friends is full. And these are the people I wave to. Am not taking on any new friends at this time. Same reason I don't shake hands with a new acquaintance or a stranger.
