Any other Keystone owners ever experienced a mystery phantom battery draw?
Our 02 Cougar killed the battery a few days ago, however I thought I knew what the reason was - I had left on the bathroom light.
So, I charged it back up to about 50% (I'd estimate) and then went and parked the trailer again. I returned this morning to pickup the trailer (went for a new set of tires) and the battery was flat dead again.
I double checked everything (once I plugged it into the truck and fired up the generator as well) and there was *nothing* turned on this time.
When I dropped it off at the storage lot again this evening I disconnected the negative cable off the battery (again, nothing on inside) and got a notable spark between the cable and terminal - so there's *something* drawing power somewhere.
Yup, there is a drain. Your propane detector and display memory for your stereo along with possibly the back light for the stereo draw constantly. Whenever in storage, disconnect your battery, or pull the fuse, or install a disconnect switch.

Yes, the phantom draw from the propane detector I'm aware of - our radio is 120V so there's no draw there, and the fridge was off.
But...there's no way the propane detector killed a 50% charged deep cycle in 2 days, and the size of the spark from the cable (when I disconnected it last night) indicates to me that there's a much more significant draw from somewhere.
I triple checked everything before the latest battery kill (including lights in the basement, kids bunks, closets, etc) and couldn't find *anything* left on, so it's got me stumped now.
Soider so leads to a number 97 12V light blub and hook it up between the battery post and the cable. It will most likely light up brightly. Now start pulling fuses and disconnecting things to find out where the load is coming from. Chris

If your battery is a couple of years old the parasitic draw will drain it quite quickly. I was under the impression that cougars had a 12V not 120V radio. I know the new units are 12V.
I always disconnect the battery when I will have my fifth wheel in storage for more than a week.

The battery is actually only a few weeks old, so I've been able to rule that out.
The radio is no longer the stock unit but was replaced with a higher-end unit that I just run off an inverter when I need it on the road.
I guess I'll take Chris' advice and start pulling fuses to see what one represents the draw, and see where that leads. If I can't track it down even after that I'll probably just put a quick disconnect on the battery and make a habit of disconnecting it when parked, but I've always enjoyed not having to do this - we're typically out almost every weekend so the "regular" parasitic draws are never a concern that justified disconnecting the battery.
