If it has the Ford 460 or Chevy 454 engine you won't be getting 10mpg.
Figure on between 6 and 7!
Tank size? - I have no idea. Do you have any kind of a manual?
On our Santara Type A 35' w/460 Ford we got between 5.5 and 7 mpg.

A "86" with only 15K miles?
It may need new tires, belts, hoses, fluids & filters in everything. You may first need to spend up to $2,500 just to get it road worthy.

We were recently given a 1986 Coachmen Classic Motor Home, Class A for our Mission trips and Youth Group events. We haven't picked it up yet and have a trip to Mexico to make in a month and another to Florida shortly after that. I am trying to research the MPG on the thing, I am figuring about 10per gal, but wondering how many gals a gas tank on it would be. Does anyone know? Owning an RV is new to us, so as far as info...........we are "green".
Thanks,
Bunnie

You don't say what size chassis/veh length. I have an 96 damon, 26 ft, on a 158 in wheelbase and I get 10.3 mpg. I don't drag a 'toad' or it would be at least 2-3 mpg less!!. Engine is a 454 TBI, 4L80 trannie. My total loaded weight is about 6 tons.Hope this helps,

cheers

Gas is likely to be over $5.00 per gallon by then so unless you just have to take the MoHo, I would not do it. Gonna get very expensive at 6 or so miles per gallon.

How many folks are you taking? A youth group could be like carrying adults and just because there is room doesn't mean it can carry all the weight.

My older 1987 Fleetwood Class C 24' got about 7 mpg on a very good day.

I second getting info on the ages of tires, belts, etc.

Make sure you have all the necessary papers/releases to take minors (under 18) into Mexico and then get them back in the USA.

The Minors are mine. lol Our family does the Mission trips into Mexico, and there are 5(2 adults/3 teens)of us. Our oldest daughter, who is a Pastor, is also our Church Youth Pastor and right now there are 10 kids in our Youth Group, 7 or whom want to go on the trip to Lakeland, Fla to the revival. They (the Youth Group)do not, however, go on the trips into Mexico with us, they go with our Church on trips our Church goes on as a "whole".
So, into Mexico there will be 3 teens and 2 adults, possibly 1 or 2 other adults. For the trip to Fla there are 7 teens and 3 adults that want to go.
Now, I realize you can only "haul" so many people and "stuff" in these things, and I am sure there is a weight limit...............guess I'll have to find out what it is. I certainly do not want to overload it and get stranded somewhere with a group of teens! lol
I plan on having a friend of mine, who is a mechanic, check it out when we get it here. Also, in Ohio when you bring a vehicle in from another state it has to be inspected by the Ohio DMV.
Again...thanks to all who are sharing your knowledge! I really appreciate it!

Let me give you a little advice on the 'inspection'. All the Ohio DMV is interested in is that the title matches the VIN#, so they can determine the proper title transfer to issue an ohio title. They DO_NOT 'check' for the safety of the vehicle. That is up to you. also you will have to have proper insurance.

cheers
